PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clinton Evanovich (ranked 4419 p4p, 149 weight class) and Jack Tupp (ranked 4373 p4p, 147 weight class). Evanovich comes to the cage accompanied by Tori Amos - Bouncing Off Clouds. Tupp is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Concrete Sledge. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Clinton Evanovich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Tupp!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evanovich thuds his right hand into Tupp's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Evanovich sizes up Tupp with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Evanovich has Tupp up against the cage in a clinch.

Tupp breaks from the clinch.
Evanovich definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Tupp closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Evanovich did well to prevent Tupp getting side control.

Evanovich manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Tupp keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Tupp breaks from the clinch.

Evanovich clinches up against the cage.
Evanovich tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Tupp's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tupp shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Evanovich has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Tupp is on him like a limpet, forcing Evanovich back against the cage.

Tupp pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tupp avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Tupp looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Tupp decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Evanovich makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Evanovich forces Tupp back against the cage and clinches.

Evanovich manages to pull guard.
Tupp trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Tupp stands up and waves to Evanovich to follow him.

Evanovich fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tupp, pushing him back against the cage.

Evanovich is trying to break the clinch but Tupp has him pressed against the cage.
Tupp lands an elbow that stopped Evanovich in his tracks for a moment.
Evanovich is breathing heavily.

Tupp breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Evanovich lands a jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tupp looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Evanovich is fending him off so far but Tupp persists. Nope, Evanovich circles away and we're back to standing.

Tupp has Evanovich up against the cage in a clinch.

Evanovich tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Evanovich blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Evanovich is looking to take this one to the mat.

Tupp turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Tupp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Evanovich keeps working.
Tupp postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Tupp lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Evanovich down.
Tupp lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Evanovich takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Evanovich is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tupp off and has taken his back!

Tupp is trying to stand back up.

Evanovich working for a choke but Tupp reverses nicely into Evanovich 's guard.
Tupp with a flurry of punches that miss.
Tupp chips away with some ground and pound.
Tupp with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Tupp throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Evanovich works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Tupp postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Evanovich pulls Tupp in close to his closed guard and prevents Tupp from doing any damage or advancing position.
Evanovich lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Tupp is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Evanovich asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tupp wants to get back to his feet but Evanovich is dominant here and he's now got Tupp's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Tupp fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Tupp shoots in for a double leg but Evanovich sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Evanovich lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Clinton Evanovich is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Evanovich clinches.
Tupp has a couple of punches blocked by Evanovich.
Tupp just leaning against Evanovich, taking a breather.
Evanovich misses with a knee to the head.
Evanovich manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Evanovich has had enough of the clinch but Tupp keeps him there for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tupp is looking to control Evanovich's arms but Evanovich gets an underhook and turns him. Now Tupp has his back to the cage.

Evanovich changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Tupp fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Evanovich tries to sprawl but Tupp drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Tupp winds up and cracks Evanovich with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Tupp looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Evanovich with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tupp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Evanovich. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tupp connects with a nice short shot to Evanovich's temple.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tupp throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Evanovich throws a right hand that Tupp ducks under and follows up with a left that Tupp also avoids with ease.
Tupp counters with a body kick.
A jab lands there for Evanovich.
Clinton Evanovich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tupp shoots in and bounces Evanovich off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Tupp lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Evanovich is trying to control the position but Tupp postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Evanovich uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Tupp has time to react.

Tupp changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Evanovich tries to avoid it but Tupp manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Evanovich to the ground. Evanovich escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Evanovich is trying to maintain a safe position but Tupp gets an underhook and turns Evanovich into the cage.

Evanovich tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tupp smiles and moves away.

Tupp lands a nice uppercut.
Evanovich wants to get back to striking at distance but Tupp won't allow it.

Tupp must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tupp throws an elbow that misses. Evanovich uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tupp's guard. Nice move by Evanovich!

Tupp with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Evanovich to score with a decent uppercut.

Evanovich stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Evanovich wants it to stay on the feet.

Evanovich looks to land a combination. Tupp sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Evanovich is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
