PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ace Knott (ranked 21635 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaspars Petrovs (ranked 3274 p4p, 375 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ace Knott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Kaspars Petrovs!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrovs shoots for a takedown but Knott saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
It looked like Knott was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Petrovs.
Petrovs lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Knott keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
No joy there for Petrovs, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Knott moves to clinch but Petrovs breaks away

and Petrovs counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Knott can't keep his opponent in guard - Petrovs advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Knott wants to get back to full guard.
Knott is staying active underneath Petrovs, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Petrovs working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Knott's thigh. Knott counters though and makes it back to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Petrovs sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Knott's guard.
Knott is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Petrovs scores with a couple of nice shots.

Petrovs passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Knott!

Petrovs is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Knott is surviving well by controlling Petrovs's body position as best he can.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Petrovs lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Knott hang on?
Petrovs unloads with some shots from mount but Knott bucks and avoids them well.
Petrovs tries to control but Knott wriggling away.

Petrovs takes Knott's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Knott is in trouble.

Petrovs has the hooks in. Knott is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Petrovs is not going to allow Knott to sit and survive in this position.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Knott fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Petrovs misses with a takedown attempt - Knott sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Knott wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Knott tries to clinch but Petrovs moves out of range.

Knott rushes Petrovs and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Petrovs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Knott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Knott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kaspars Petrovs has got the better of the ground game so far.
Knott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Petrovs swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Petrovs is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Petrovs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Petrovs can't keep his opponent in guard - Knott advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Petrovs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Knott is working away from the top position though.
Knott wants to take a breather but Petrovs is having none of it.
Knott thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Petrovs's head.

Petrovs makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Petrovs.
Petrovs is pulling down on Knott's head. It's preventing any offense from Knott, at least for the moment.

Petrovs is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Petrovs is refusing to be controlled, as Knott sits in half guard.

Knott is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Petrovs is just riding it out for now. Knott eventually gives up the hold.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Petrovs tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Knott swivels and escapes.
Knott slaps away a takedown attempt from Petrovs, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Knott fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Petrovs manages to avoid it.
Petrovs lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Petrovs takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Knott leaves Petrovs with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ace Knott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kaspars Petrovs.

Knott swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Knott misses with a punch on the inside.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Petrovs has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Knott after a bit of a struggle.
Petrovs tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Knott chips away with some ground and pound.
Knott with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Knott postures up in Petrovs's guard and throws a big left but Petrovs blocks it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Knott has hold of Petrovs's hands but Petrovs slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Knott wants to control but Petrovs is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Knott wants to improve his position but Petrovs is controlling well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Knott scores with a jab. Petrovs acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Ace Knott is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Knott drives through and clinches with Petrovs against the cage.

Petrovs has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Knott uses from the top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ace Knott.
I think Knott has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
