PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Isaiah Sturridge (ranked 2444 p4p, 311 weight class) and James McGuire (ranked 1969 p4p, 256 weight class). Sturridge's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Gimmie The Loot - By: The Notorious BIG. McGuire has chosen Metallica - Enter Sandman as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Isaiah Sturridge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James McGuire!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGuire rushes Sturridge and presses him up against the cage.

Sturridge wants the takedown. McGuire is fighting it off but Sturridge persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in McGuire's guard against the cage.
Sturridge stops McGuire from standing up.

Sturridge avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sturridge is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
McGuire controls Sturridge momentarily but Sturridge frees himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sturridge accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sturridge throws an elbow that misses. McGuire uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sturridge's guard. Nice move by McGuire!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGuire trying to control but Sturridge is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sturridge controls McGuire momentarily but McGuire frees himself.

Sturridge is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Sturridge is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McGuire won't allow Sturridge to sweep him here.
Sturridge being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sturridge misses the shot to the body.
McGuire staying out of range there.
McGuire takes one to the chin there.


It looks like James McGuire has been cut.
Sturridge fails with the takedown.

Sturridge closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sturridge lands in his opponent's guard.
McGuire is pulling down on Sturridge's head. It's preventing any offense from Sturridge, at least for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sturridge throws a big right hand that misses.
McGuire utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

McGuire has his foot on Sturridge's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sturridge works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sturridge postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
McGuire pulls Sturridge in close to prevent any damage.
McGuire wants to get back to his feet but Sturridge is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sturridge is in close to McGuire's body, working some short punches and elbows.
McGuire looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Sturridge wants to control from the top but McGuire keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sturridge showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
McGuire not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sturridge lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Sturridge throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McGuire works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sturridge throws a strike but McGuire rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sturridge is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McGuire postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

McGuire uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sturridge.
McGuire closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Sturridge out cold! Sturridge corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
