Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Johnsen (ranked 2221 p4p, 292 weight class) and Robert Brunson (ranked 4395 p4p, 485 weight class). Brunson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Flinstones Theme Song. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ronnie Johnsen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert Brunson!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brunson gets caught napping as Johnsen dives in and scores a takedown. Brunson manages to retain guard.
Johnsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brunson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brunson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Johnsen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Johnsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Brunson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Johnsen throws an elbow but Brunson slips to the side and avoids it well.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Brunson has his takedown stuffed

and Johnsen counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Johnsen lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brunson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Brunson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Johnsen is controlling him.
Johnsen connects with a couple of short punches.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Johnsen clinches up with Brunson and pushes him back against the cage.

Johnsen wants to take the fight to the mat but Brunson manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Brunson jumps guard and drags Johnsen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Ronnie Johnsen dominated that second round.
That's time! Johnsen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Johnsen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brunson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnsen somewhat.
Despite the aggression on Brunson's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Johnsen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Brunson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Ronnie Johnsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnsen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brunson avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronnie Johnsen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Brunson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brunson lands in his opponent's guard.

A close third round but Robert Brunson just about did enough to take it.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Johnsen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Brunson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And Brunson tries to counter it with a takedown but Johnsen pushes his down on his head and steps out.
