Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tony Vespuci (ranked 4197 p4p, 352 weight class) and Frederick Weinstein (ranked 5079 p4p, 394 weight class). Frederick Weinstein will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Vespuci!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frederick Weinstein!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Weinstein gets a takedown into half guard.
Vespuci blocking the ground and pound attempt from Weinstein.
Weinstein is looking to advance position but Vespuci won't allow it.

Vespuci looking for submissions off his back.
Weinstein not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vespuci keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Weinstein lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Weinstein misses with a head shot. Vespuci uses the momentum to regain guard.
Vespuci keeping moving, preventing Weinstein from controlling successfully.
Weinstein cracks Vespuci with a solid left hand.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Vespuci has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Weinstein can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Weinstein postures up and lands a big shot to Vespuci's brow.
Weinstein working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Vespuci wants to sweep but no luck.

Weinstein stands up from Vespuci's guard - Weinstein perhaps looking for a knockout.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Weinstein.

Vespuci throws a series of punches but Weinstein moves out of range.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Vespuci drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Vespuci throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Weinstein has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vespuci gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Weinstein counters with a left and a right that stings Vespuci.
Vespuci shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Weinstein holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Weinstein has Vespuci pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Weinstein pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Vespuci tumbling to the mat - Weinstein dives into Vespuci's guard.

Vespuci is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Weinstein presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Weinstein tries for a takedown but Vespuci manages to get underhooks.

Weinstein wants to take the fight to the mat but Vespuci manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Tony Vespuci has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frederick Weinstein.
Weinstein drops down looking for an ankle pick but Vespuci pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Weinstein counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Weinstein is staying active underneath Vespuci, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Vespuci content to control rather than advance.
Weinstein is looking to improve his position.

Weinstein looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Vespuci seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Vespuci is looking for a kimura but Weinstein is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Vespuci to get the leverage.

Vespuci is working for an americana but Weinstein has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Vespuci was thinking about the submission.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tony Vespuci will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Weinstein is looking for a sweep. Vespuci is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Vespuci is just content to waste time from the top position. Weinstein takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Vespuci postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vespuci seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Vespuci trying to control but Weinstein is working from the bottom.
Vespuci is really struggling to control Weinstein but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Weinstein trying to keep a closed guard but Vespuci is proving a slippery customer.
Vespuci forces his way into half guard.
Vespuci seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Vespuci is trying to control. Weinstein wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Vespuci trying to control the pace.
Weinstein felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Vespuci wants to control but Weinstein is keeping him busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vespuci misses with a few strikes there.
Vespuci shoots in for a takedown but Weinstein shows good takedown defense.
Vespuci shoots in looking for a takedown but Weinstein manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vespuci's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Weinstein darts in looking for a takedown but Vespuci gets double underhooks and turns Weinstein into the cage.

Vespuci fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Weinstein to the ground. Vespuci is now in Weinstein's guard.

Vespuci controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Weinstein looking for a guillotine here but Vespuci defends easily.

Vespuci avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tony Vespuci showed his dominance in that final round.

In his post fight interview, Tony Vespuci started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
