PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vicente Lafayette (ranked 2260 p4p, 292 weight class) and Bornas Lopette (ranked 3461 p4p, 396 weight class). Lopette has chosen Root Of All Evil as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Vicente Lafayette!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 43 - 36 - 3, fighting out of New York, Bornas Lopette!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lafayette fails with an attempt to clinch.
Lafayette avoids the head kick by Lopette.
Lopette showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lafayette.
Lafayette shoots for a double leg takedown but Lopette sprawls well. He's pushed Lafayette's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lafayette throws a good cross that connects.
Lopette tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Lafayette fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lopette has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Lopette misses with a straight left.
Lafayette feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Lafayette checks a leg kick nicely.
Lopette swings for the body but Lafayette moves out of range.
Lafayette is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lopette throws a nice outside leg kick.
Lopette slips under a jab from Lafayette.
Lopette lands with an uppercut that bounces Lafayette off the cage and back into range.
Lafayette definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Lopette thows a leg kick but Lafayette checks it
and Lafayette counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Lafayette fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lopette, pushing him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lopette misses with a body punch.
Lopette can't find room to land a body shot as Lafayette controls the action.
Lopette tries to work over Lafayette's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Lafayette is trying to pull guard but Lopette has him pressed against the cage.
Lafayette tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vicente Lafayette. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lafayette blocks a body shot from Lopette.

Lafayette manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Lafayette looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Lafayette has his foot on Lopette's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lopette works his way back into a safe position though.
Lafayette pulls Lopette in close to prevent any damage.

Lafayette is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lopette defends well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lopette got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lafayette has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lopette has managed to get both his arms back between Lafayette's legs - danger averted.

Lafayette pulls Lopette in close to his closed guard and prevents Lopette from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lafayette throws his legs up looking for a submission but Lopette uses it to pass to side control.
Lafayette is looking for a sweep.
Lafayette tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Lopette avoids the attempt from Lafayette to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lafayette regains half guard.
Lopette passes into side control, despite Lafayette's attempt to control the position.
Lafayette tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Lafayette's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lafayette tries to buck Lopette off but Lopette is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lafayette regains half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vicente Lafayette will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lafayette pushes Lopette up against the cage in a clinch.
Lafayette is trying to pull guard but Lopette has him pressed against the cage.
Lafayette takes a shot to the head.
Lopette with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Lopette misses with an elbow over the top.
Lafayette tries to pull guard but Lopette forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Lafayette fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vicente Lafayette. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lafayette pulls guard.

Lopette has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Lafayette to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Lopette is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Lafayette pulls down on the head and he's put Lopette to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Vicente Lafayette!
Vicente Lafayette really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Sin City Allstars logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
Bornas Lopette was interviewed post fight and said 'I'll Train Harder And Win My Next Fight Fans, Sorry For My Loss. '.
