Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Scott Smith (ranked 3625 p4p, 418 weight class) and Neo Wiggin (ranked 1981 p4p, 253 weight class). Neo Wiggin has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Scott Smith's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Neo Wiggin!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wiggin drives through with a takedown into Smith's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Smith is looking to stand back up but Wiggin counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Smith.

Wiggin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Wiggin drops an elbow to the side of Smith's head.
We've been hearing good reports from Smith's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Smith is trying to control the position but Wiggin postures up.

Wiggin is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Smith trying to keep a closed guard but Wiggin is proving a slippery customer.
Smith could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Wiggin feints and as Smith raises his hands in defense, Wiggin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Smith isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wiggin stacks Smith on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wiggin!
Wiggin happy to just control the position for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smith wants to clinch but Wiggin slips to the side
and Wiggin counters with a nice uppercut.

Wiggin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Smith is wriggling around but Wiggin manages to pass to half guard.
Wiggin is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Smith wants to get back to full guard.

Wiggin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Smith is looking to improve his position.
Wiggin landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Wiggin decides to return to a standing position.
Wiggin punishes Smith's body with a nice straight punch.

Wiggin dives in and scores a takedown into Smith's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wiggin passes Smith's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Wiggin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Smith has managed to free his arm - good work.

Smith can't keep his opponent in guard - Wiggin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smith tries to roll over but Wiggin keeps him under control.
Smith has hold of Wiggin's hands but Wiggin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Wiggin slows the pace down in half guard.

Wiggin stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Smith drives through with a takedown into guard.

Wiggin wriggles free and stands up.
Scott Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Wiggin lands a big head kick that sends Smith tumbling to the mat! Wiggin takes a step backwards and waves Smith back to his feet - he wants the finish!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Wiggin counters with a crisp right hand that drops Smith! Wiggin lets Smith back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Smith is rocked!

Wiggin with a dominant takedown and that's winded Smith.
Oh Smith is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Smith has his hands on Wiggin's head, controlling the position.
Wiggin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wiggin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Smith seems to have got his legs back now.
Wiggin scoring with some ground and pound.

Wiggin stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Wiggin stuffs the takedown.
Wiggin drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Smith defends it well.

Wiggin closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Smith did well to prevent Wiggin getting side control.
Wiggin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Wiggin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smith defends it well.

Neo Wiggin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Smith moves in looking to clinch but Wiggin pushes him off.
Wiggin tries to counter with a clinch but Smith shakes him off and moves away.

Wiggin shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Wiggin is pressing down on Smith's thigh, looking to free his foot. Smith is holding on for now.
Smith is trying to stand back up but Wiggin is controlling him
Smith is looking to control Wiggin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smith avoid being mounted?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neo Wiggin is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Wiggin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
