Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chadwick Kemp (ranked 24558 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Smith (ranked 3453 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Ryan Smith has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Smith!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kemp.
Kemp takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Smith throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kemp could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kemp.
Kemp misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Smith lands with a good body shot.
Smith connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Ryan Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith clinches up with Kemp and pushes him back against the cage.

and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Kemp backing up. Kemp nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith scores with a sloppy right hand. Kemp should have avoided that one.
Smith takes a swing at Kemp's ribcage but misses.
Kemp swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Smith forces Kemp back against the cage and clinches.
Kemp is trying to pull guard but Smith turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Smith.
Kemp tries to pull guard but Smith forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Smith gets through Kemp's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Smith is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Smith effectively controlling the action here.
Smith goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Smith can't find room to land a body shot as Kemp controls the action.
Kemp tries to pull guard but Smith holds him up against the cage and eventually Kemp drops back down to his feet.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kemp feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Smith wants to stand and escape but Kemp is having none of it.
We've been informed that Smith has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Kemp shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smith sprawls well. Smith wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kemp gets slowly back to his feet.

Kemp misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kemp, pushing him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kemp tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smith just stands there and leans against the cage.

Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kemp shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Kemp keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kemp seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kemp throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kemp is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Chadwick Kemp overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kemp is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's time! Kemp's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kemp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kemp is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Kemp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Smith throws a lazy right hand but Kemp sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kemp is looking to counter the offense by Smith and move into the clinch.
Kemp goes for a double leg but Smith avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Smith continues to drive forward.
Kemp shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Smith! But no joy.
Kemp takes one to the chin there.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Kemp in a clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
