Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Connar Cage (ranked 4374 p4p, 433 weight class) and Rodrygo Da Silva (ranked 2404 p4p, 270 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Connar Cage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rodrygo Da Silva!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Da Silva with a poor takedown

and Cage holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Cage gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Da Silva regains guard.
Cage trying to stand up but can't free himself from Da Silva's guard.
Da Silva tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cage trying to control but Da Silva is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cage slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Da Silva can't do much from the bottom here.

Cage stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Cage leaves Da Silva with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Cage closes the distance and pushes Da Silva back into the cage.

Cage pulls guard effortlessly.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cage is on top in guard.

Cage chips away with some ground and pound.
Cage passes Da Silva's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cage trying to control from half guard but Da Silva is working away.
Da Silva wants to get back to full guard.
Cage looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Cage is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Da Silva is just riding it out for now. Cage eventually gives up the hold.
Cage tries to pass to full mount but Da Silva defends it.

Cage prevents Da Silva from improving his position.
Cage thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cage in particular looking to stall.
Cage moves nicely into side control.

Cage stands up and we're back to a striking position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cage leaves Da Silva with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cage appears to be looking for a big counter.
Connar Cage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodrygo Da Silva.
Da Silva shoots and misses

and Cage moves into the clinch.

Cage is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cage wants to control but Da Silva is keeping him busy.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cage circles away from the clinch attempt.
Da Silva shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cage but Cage pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Cage lands a couple of good shots and Da Silva has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Cage tries to get the hooks in deep but Da Silva pushed the leg off.

Cage is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Da Silva can do to turn this around?

Da Silva breaks Cage's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Cage bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Da Silva's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cage is standing up over Da Silva. Da Silva looks to escape but Cage dives into side control.

Cage drags the fight down to the ground.
Cage controls Da Silva momentarily but Da Silva frees himself.

Cage wants to improve his position but instead Da Silva has moved into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cage is looking for a sweep. Da Silva is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Cage has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Da Silva is working away from the top position though.

Connar Cage overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cage wants to free his trapped foot but Da Silva is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Cage is nestled in close to Da Silva, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Cage is working for a kimura but Da Silva is defending it quite comfortably.

Cage seems to be looking for submissions.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Da Silva wants to control but Cage passes into side.

Cage stands up.
Da Silva fails with a takedown attempt.

Cage bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Cage stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Da Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cage paws at him with a jab and circles away.

so Cage counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Da Silva is looking to stand back up but Cage counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Da Silva.

Da Silva is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Cage trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Da Silva is just holding on here. Cage manages to take his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Even with his hooks in, Cage manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Cage is looking for a choke. Da Silva gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Da Silva manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.

Cage keeping moving, preventing Da Silva from controlling successfully.

That's time! Cage's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Da Silva lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Cage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Cage is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Da Silva can't fight it off and eventually Cage manages to take the fight to the floor. Da Silva looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Da Silva manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
Da Silva is not content to let Cage control the position.

Cage slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Da Silva is trying to maintain a safe position but Cage gets an underhook and turns Da Silva into the cage.
Da Silva drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cage is looking to sweep but instead, Da Silva has passed into half guard.

Cage looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Cage avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Da Silva.
Cage is staying active underneath Da Silva, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Connar Cage.
Well Cage has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
