Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David McCarthy (ranked 4608 p4p, 498 weight class) and Phill Brooks (ranked 19466 p4p, 650 weight class). McCarthy comes into the arena with Chamillionaire - Ridin' ft. Krayzie Bone blaring out of the sound system. Brooks is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Cult Of Personality . David McCarthy has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David McCarthy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phill Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Chad Campbell and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCarthy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Brooks trying to control here.

McCarthy is looking for a kimura here.
McCarthy trying to mount his opponent but Brooks defends it.

McCarthy escapes and gets back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by McCarthy.

McCarthy decides to stand back up. McCarthy steps back and let's Brooks get back to his feet.

McCarthy closes the distance and clinches.

McCarthy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McCarthy lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brooks looks for a takedown but McCarthy sprawls well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

McCarthy forces Brooks back against the cage and clinches.
McCarthy is looking to take this one to the mat.

McCarthy manages to break the clinch.
David McCarthy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brooks throws a nice looking combination but McCarthy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

McCarthy gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

McCarthy manages to break the clinch.
McCarthy dips to his left and cracks Brooks with an uppercut!
McCarthy smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

McCarthy rushes Brooks and presses him up against the cage.

McCarthy breaks the clinch.
Brooks pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Brooks takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Brooks has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Brooks closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brooks lands in his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brooks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCarthy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McCarthy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brooks is one step ahead there.
Brooks pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCarthy is keeping the position for now.
McCarthy keeping moving, preventing Brooks from controlling successfully.
McCarthy wants to stand up but Brooks is controlling him.

McCarthy is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

McCarthy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCarthy uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Brooks has time to react.
Brooks has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

McCarthy takes the fight into the clinch.

McCarthy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Brooks looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
McCarthy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Brooks but Brooks pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Brooks works McCarthy's body with a nice hook.
Brooks walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
McCarthy jabs at Brooks's body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McCarthy lands the left hand.
A jab from McCarthy finds it's way through Brooks's defenses.
McCarthy lands a brutal head kick. Brooks looks out on his feet and McCarthy throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). David McCarthy!
In his post fight interview, David McCarthy started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
The defeated Phill Brooks had this to say: 'I Don't Know I Could Go Back To WWE Or Train Harder Than Ever Before And Win My Next Fight'.
