PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rico Acosta (ranked 4599 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tsung Dao Ren (ranked 4022 p4p, 0 weight class). Ren has chosen "Welcome to the Party" (Feat. Zhavia Ward) By Diplo, French Montana & Lil P as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rico Acosta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tsung Dao Ren!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ren gets caught flat footed, as Acosta shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Acosta thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Ren is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Acosta is aware though and is defending well.

Acosta is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ren keeping full guard, as Acosta tries to pass.

Acosta thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Acosta working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Acosta postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ren had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Acosta defends it easily.
Ren looks winded!
Acosta postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ren has his hands on Acosta's head, controlling the position.
Acosta forces his way into half guard.

Acosta is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ren regains full guard. Nicely done.

Acosta stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ren swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Acosta drops back looking for a leg! Ren is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ren manages to kick Acosta off! Acosta jumps back into Ren's guard.
Ren throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ren drives through and clinches with Acosta against the cage.

Ren pulls guard successfully.
Acosta trying to control but Ren is working from the bottom.
Acosta with a flurry of punches that miss.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ren utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Acosta scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Acosta drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Acosta jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Ren is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Acosta's half guard.
Acosta tries to get to full guard but Ren has control of the leg.
Ren wants to lay and pray for a moment but Acosta keeps working.

Ren is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Acosta defends it well.
Ren is breathing heavily.

Acosta is looking for a sweep. Ren is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ren looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ren controlling the action here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ren wants to take a breather but Acosta is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ren wants to stand up but Acosta has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Tsung Dao Ren has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ren is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Acosta is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tsung Dao Ren!
A very excited looking Tsung Dao Ren rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
