PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bert Rivers (ranked 24435 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Diaz (ranked 3604 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Bert Rivers has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Ben Watson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz throws a body kick that misses.

Rivers closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Diaz's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rivers is looking to stand up but Diaz won't let him.

and Rivers counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Robert Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rivers closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Diaz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rivers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rivers's back!
Well, with Diaz on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Rivers is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
You can see the frustration on Rivers's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Diaz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rivers haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bert Rivers will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Rivers stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rivers wants it to stay on the feet.
