Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Will Charles (ranked 2802 p4p, 308 weight class) and Joe Monroe (ranked 3539 p4p, 362 weight class). Joe Monroe will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Will Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Monroe !
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Monroe moves into the clinch.
Charles tries for a takedown. No joy.

Charles has hold of one of Monroe 's legs. Monroe is fighting the takedown attempt but Charles gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Charles throwing strikes from guard but Monroe blocks nicely.
Charles missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Charles postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Charles is looking to work some ground and pound but Monroe has wrist control.
Charles throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Monroe works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Charles tries to free his leg and advance position but Monroe is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Charles with a flurry of punches that miss.
Charles postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Monroe controls Charles momentarily but Charles frees himself.
Charles trying to control the position from guard on top but Monroe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Charles postures up in Monroe 's guard and throws a big left but Monroe blocks it.
Charles slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Monroe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Charles throwing strikes but missing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Monroe feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Charless jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Charles avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Monroe tries to clinch but Charles is having none of it.
Monroe lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Charles at a distance.

Monroe closes the distance and clinches.

Monroe breaks the clinch.

Monroe takes the fight into the clinch.
Charles goes for a takedown attempt but Monroe pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Monroe lands a jab-cross combination.
Joe Monroe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Monroe tries to clinch up.
Jab, jab by Monroe - just one landing.
Charles tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Monroe defends well and Charles ends up having to push Monroe into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Monroe has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Charles is landing a low percentage of strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will Charles. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Monroe moves to clinch but Charles breaks away

so Charles counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Charles stops Monroe from standing up.
Charles throwing strikes but missing.
Charles throwing strikes but missing.
Monroe wants to sweep but no luck.
Charles has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Charles throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Monroe works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Monroe has momentary wrist control but Charles slips an elbow through the middle.
Charles is working Monroe over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Monroe wants to control the position but Charles says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Charles thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Charles not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Charles looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Charles prevents Monroe from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Will Charles will probably get the nod.
That's time! Charles's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Charles shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Monroe sprawls well. Monroe wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Charles gets slowly back to his feet.
Monroe appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Monroe is looking to clinch.
Charles tries to counter by clinching up but Monroe breaks away and moves out of range.
Charles has a takedown stuffed.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Monroe , right into the meat.
Monroe takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monroe scores with a crisp jab that stopped Charles in his tracks.
Donk. Monroe catches Charles right on the button with a cross.
Monroe tries to close the distance and clinch but Charles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Charles shoots in for a double leg but Monroe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Monroe is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will Charles. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Monroe is pawing at Charles, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Charles's nose. Charles is badly hurt! Monroe pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Charles tries desperately to hold on but Monroe is relentless in his assault! As Charles receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Monroe away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Monroe !
