The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Bruno Lombardi and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Thompson. That snapped Showaikh's head back.
Thompson stuffs the takedown.
Showaikh misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Thompson stuffs the takedown attempt from Showaikh. Showaikh gets slowly back to his feet.

Thompson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Showaikh. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thompson wants to stand up but Showaikh is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Showaikh gets full guard.
Thompson wants to get up but he can't break Showaikh's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Thompson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Showaikh working for a triangle but Thompson defends it easily.
Showaikh is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Thompson has his hands clasped together but Showaikh extends and breaks Thompson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Showaikh.
