Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brock Gillespie (ranked 23173 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alessio Da Santiago (ranked 4669 p4p, 385 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brock Gillespie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alessio Da Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Da Santiago is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gillespie's half guard.
Gillespie is staying active underneath Da Santiago, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Da Santiago is controlling the pace.
Da Santiago passes to side control.
Gillespie is trying to control Da Santiago's posture but Da Santiago avoids it.
Gillespie is trying to escape the position but Da Santiago is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gillespie is not content to let Da Santiago control the position.
Gillespie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Da Santiago tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gillespie manages to get back to half guard.

Da Santiago looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gillespie is looking for a sweep. Da Santiago is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Da Santiago closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gillespie's guard.

Da Santiago wants to improve his position but Gillespie is controlling well.
Gillespie seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gillespie connects with a nice short shot to Da Santiago's temple.

Da Santiago sneaks out the side door and pushes Gillespie away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gillespie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Da Santiago tries to counter with a clinch but Gillespie shakes him off and moves away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Da Santiago is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gillespie defends well.

Da Santiago has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gillespie off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Gillespie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Da Santiago works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Alessio Da Santiago showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Gillespie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Da Santiago gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gillespie makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Da Santiago jumps guard and drags Gillespie to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Da Santiago manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Gillespie is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Gillespie creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Gillespie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gillespie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gillespie wants to stand but Da Santiago has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Gillespie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Da Santiago has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gillespie has managed to get both his arms back between Da Santiago's legs - danger averted.
