PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lazaro Shaw (ranked 5226 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Bull (ranked 3270 p4p, 0 weight class). Bull is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Nelly-Here Comes The Boom. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lazaro Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Scott Bull!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Daniel Bishop and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bull moves into range and clinches up with Shaw.
Shaw jumps guard but Bull stands there with Shaw around his waist. Shaw gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Bull lands a hook that snaps the head of Shaw backwards.

Shaw escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bull rushes Shaw and presses him up against the cage.
Shaw is stalling here.
Bull told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Shaw stalling in the clinch but Bull improves position.
Bull has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Bull successfully pulls guard.
Shaw prevents Bull from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shaw wants to control from the top but Bull keeps moving.
Shaw connects with a couple of short punches.

Bull has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Shaw is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Bull manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Bull kicks Shaw off and gets to his feet.
Bull tries to bum rush Shaw with a series of wild strikes but Shaw uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A counter left hand to the body from Shaw misses its target.

Bull drives through and clinches with Shaw against the cage.

Shaw is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Bull fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Bull escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Shaw tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bull sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shaw somewhat.
As Shaw backs off Bull throws a huge counter combo but Shaw manages to avoid it all.
Bull tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Shaw manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bull throws a sloppy head kick and Shaw moves out of range easily.
Bull walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Shaw checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Bull darts in and clinches Shaw up against the cage.

Shaw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bull misses with a double jab
and Shaw counters with a body kick that stops Bull in his tracks momentarily.
No luck for Bull with that takedown attempt.
A counter left hand to the body from Shaw misses its target.
Bull's corner calls for a 1-2. Bull obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bull fails to land with a series of punches.
It looked like Shaw was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Bull.
Shaw displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bull.
Shaw throws a quick counter head kick but Bull was just out of range.
Lazaro Shaw has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Bull.
Bull tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shaw paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bull goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Shaw moves out of range as Bull throws a body kick.
Bull shoots in for a double leg but Shaw sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Shaw tries for a takedown but Bull sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
As Shaw backs off Bull throws a huge counter combo but Shaw manages to avoid it all.
Shaw shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bull pinned against the cage. Bull gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shaw lands with a nice body punch.
Scott Bull seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shaw throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bull's waist but Bull gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shaw off to one side.
Bull is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Bull throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Shaw seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Bull moves into the clinch successfully.
Bull looks to throw an elbow but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Bull dominated that round.

Bull has Shaw up against the cage in a clinch.
Shaw tries to pull guard but Bull holds him up against the cage and eventually Shaw drops back down to his feet.

Bull tries for a takedown but Shaw sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bull throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
A counter left hand to the body from Shaw misses its target.

Shaw shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bull napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Bull bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

and Shaw counters with a series of strikes. Bull will be more careful next time no doubt.

Shaw keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Lazaro Shaw has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Bull.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bull.
Shaw fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Bull has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bull throws a push kick but Shaw slaps the foot to one side.
Bull is trying hard to land a takedown here. Shaw sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Bull is pushing Shaw up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Bull is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Shaw is defending well for now.

Shaw keeps control of Bull as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Shaw can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.

Shaw is looking to control Bull's arms but Bull gets an underhook and turns him. Now Shaw has his back to the cage.

Shaw tries to stall but Bull uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Lazaro Shaw.
Bull digs a good hook to Shaw's body.
Shaw throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Bull counters by moving into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee is keeping an eye on Bull - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Shaw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Scott Bull showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Bull throws a combination. Shaw tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Bull drags the fight down to the ground.
Shaw throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bull striking off his back but it's not causing Shaw any problems.

Bull pushes Shaw off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bull tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bull is defended easily by Shaw.

Bull drives through and clinches with Shaw against the cage.

Bull tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shaw manages to break the clinch.

Shaw gets tackled into the cage by Bull. Bull maintains the clinch.
Shaw is looking to control Bull's arms but Bull gets an underhook and turns him. Now Shaw has his back to the cage.

Shaw breaks the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Shaw breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Shaw fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nice takedown defense from Shaw. No joy for Bull on that attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A head kick misses from Bull.
Lazaro Shaw has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Scott Bull is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Shaw throws a body punch but Bull moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Scott Bull comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Bull winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Scott Bull spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
