PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alberto Moreno (ranked 4233 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syco Souirrel (ranked 2452 p4p, 0 weight class). Moreno is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. The key to victory for Alberto Moreno has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alberto Moreno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Syco Souirrel!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Steve Montenegro and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souirrel lands a nice looking kick to the body. Moreno takes a step back to recover.
Moreno is breathing heavily.
Moreno missing with a left hand there. Souirrel was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Souirrel swats away the attempt to clinch by Moreno.
Souirrel tries a head kick but it misses.
Souirrel rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Moreno moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Alberto Moreno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Moreno throws a shot from downtown. Souirrel moves away and avoids it.

Souirrel pushes Moreno up against the cage in a clinch.
Souirrel lands a hook to the side of the head.

Souirrel drags the fight down to the ground.
Souirrel pulls Moreno in to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Souirrel manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Moreno manages to get himself to full guard.

Moreno is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Souirrel is controlling him.

Souirrel slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Souirrel decides to stand back up. Souirrel steps back and let's Moreno get back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Moreno has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Souirrel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Souirrel throws a series of punches but Moreno avoids them all with ease.
Souirrel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Moreno sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Moreno throws a nice looking combination but Souirrel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Souirrel wants to counter with a clinch but Moreno pushes him away.
Moreno fails in his attempt to clinch.
Souirrel shoots in looking for a takedown. Moreno tries to sprawl out of it but Souirrel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Moreno manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Souirrel takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Souirrel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Moreno avoids it really well and circles away.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alberto Moreno has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Syco Souirrel.
Souirrel throws a right and a left that Moreno avoids nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Moreno looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Souirrel is trying to drag Moreno to the mat but Moreno just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Souirrel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Souirrel shoots in but Moreno avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Souirrel shoots in for a double leg but Moreno sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A jab lands there for Moreno.
Moreno tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Souirrel paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Souirrel ducks under a wild hook from Moreno.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Souirrel moves into the clinch successfully.
Come on Souirrel - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Souirrel creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Souirrel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Moreno defends it nicely.
Souirrel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Souirrel has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Moreno uses from the top position.

Moreno's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Souirrel lands a big shot there that rocks Moreno but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Moreno has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.

Moreno is trying to get back to his feet but Souirrel has full control of the position and if anything, Moreno has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Souirrel is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Souirrel is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Moreno knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Moreno for a finish.

Souirrel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Syco Souirrel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Souirrel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
