PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Gracie (ranked 21976 p4p, 614 weight class) and Candy Van (ranked 3116 p4p, 382 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mauricio Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Candy Van!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Van!
You can see the frustration on Van's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Gracie throws an elbow but Van slips to the side and avoids it well.
Van is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Van doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.

We've been hearing good reports from Gracie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Gracie throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Van throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gracie.

Van fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gracie to the ground. Van is now in Gracie's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Mauricio Gracie will probably get the nod.

Van throws out a leg kick but Gracie moves out of range and Van only half commits.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Van is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Van looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Gracie regains full guard. Nicely done.
Van throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gracie works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
