PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roy Finnegan (ranked 480 p4p, 7 weight class) and John Riverson (ranked 691 p4p, 34 weight class). Finnegan's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Rogues - Gravel Walk. Riverson has chosen J.Ralph - Kansas City Shuffle as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Roy Finnegan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 23 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Riverson!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Finnegan enables Riverson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Finnegan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Finnegan pulls Riverson in close to prevent any damage.
Riverson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Finnegan is trying to keep Riverson in close.

Riverson drops back looking for a leg! Finnegan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Finnegan manages to kick Riverson off! Riverson jumps back into Finnegan's guard.

Riverson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Riverson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Riverson tries to free his leg and advance position but Finnegan is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riverson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Finnegan tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Finnegan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Riverson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Finnegan is trying to keep Riverson in close.
Riverson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Riverson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Finnegan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Finnegan has escaped and now he's on top!

Finnegan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Finnegan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Riverson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Finnegan has managed to get both his arms back between Riverson's legs - danger averted.
Finnegan advances to half guard.
Finnegan not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Finnegan is keen to just control but Riverson is a slippery customer.

Finnegan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Riverson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Riverson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Finnegan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Finnegan gets back to half guard.

Riverson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Finnegan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Riverson.

Riverson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Finnegan is just riding it out for now. Riverson eventually gives up the hold.

Riverson is working for a kimura but Finnegan is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Finnegan is trying is best to control the position here.
Finnegan is trying to control but can't.

Riverson is trying for a kimura here. Finnegan looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Riverson wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Riverson!
An out of breath and clearly excited John Riverson thanked Urban Fighter for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
