PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arlie Harding (ranked 24447 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Lopes (ranked 4627 p4p, 0 weight class). Lopes has chosen Beast as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Luis Lopes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arlie Harding!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luis Lopes!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lopes works over Harding's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Arlie Harding has been cut.
Lopes fails to land with a series of punches.
Harding throws a big counter combination but Lopes scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Harding wants to clinch.
Lopes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Harding's waist but Harding gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lopes off to one side.
As Lopes looks to move away, Harding throws a big counter combo but Lopes just gets out of the way.
Lopes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lopes is looking for the big counter here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lopes moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Lopes gets tackled into the cage by Harding. Harding maintains the clinch.

Harding tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Lopes is trying to break free.

Harding pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Harding checks a low kick from Lopes.
Lopes ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Lopes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Harding, pushing him back against the cage.

Harding jumps guard.
Lopes passes Harding's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Harding avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lopes.
Lopes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Harding's head.
Harding blocking the ground and pound attempt from Lopes.

Harding regains full guard. Nicely done.

Harding is working an open guard so Lopes takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lopes is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Harding is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Lopes gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Lopes is trying to break the clinch but Harding is controlling him.
A frustrated look appears on Lopes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Harding just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lopes's brow.

Lopes is trying to force a seperation but Harding has the dominant position.

Harding has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lopes uses from the top position.

Harding looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Harding is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lopes defends well.
Lopes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Harding regains half guard.
Lopes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Harding does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Harding makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Lopes uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Harding closes the distance and pushes Lopes back into the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Harding tries to keep at a distance but Lopes has taken the fight into the clinch.
Lopes wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Harding has him pressed against the cage.

Lopes is trying to force a seperation but Harding has the dominant position.
Lopes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Harding is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Lopes is trying to pull guard but Harding turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Harding turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Harding manages to end up in side control.
Lopes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Harding wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Lopes is bucking up trying to escape but Harding cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Lopes is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Harding could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lopes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Harding with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Lopes to score with a decent uppercut.

Harding has Lopes pressed against the cage, preventing Lopes from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Lopes is trying to push Harding away but Harding has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Lopes can't break the clinch.

Harding gets control of Lopes's arms and successfully pulls guard. Harding will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Lopes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Lopes connects with a body shot that sends Harding's belly button to the back.

Harding moves into range and clinches up with Lopes.
Harding tries to pull guard but Lopes won't allow it.

Lopes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Lopes lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Harding looks to clinch
and Lopes counters with a stiff right hand.
Lopes swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Harding counters with a left and a right that stings Lopes.
Luis Lopes seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lopes fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lopes's corner calls for a 1-2. Lopes obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lopes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Harding back to the cage. Lopes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Lopes is looking to clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Luis Lopes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lopes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
