Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gianluca Rossi (ranked 3446 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jones (ranked 4468 p4p, 0 weight class). John Jones is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gianluca Rossi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of The Island, John Jones!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Jones takes one on the button.
Rossi missing with a left hand there. Jones was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Jones with a poor takedown
and Rossi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rossi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rossi throws a hook but Jones blocks it.
Good exchange - Rossi coming out on top.
Rossi could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Rossi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Rossi was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Rossi throws a body shot but no joy.
Jones is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Jones fails with the takedown.
Gianluca Rossi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Jones.
Rossi throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.

Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Rossi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rossi throws a poor cross that misses

and Jones counters with a single leg into guard. Rossi didn't expect that.
Jones prevents Rossi from getting back to his feet.

Rossi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jones controls the pace.
Rossi is looking to stand up but Jones isn't so interested in that idea.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gianluca Rossi dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jones will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rossi.
And Jones tries to counter it with a takedown but Rossi pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Rossi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around?
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Rossi tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rossi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rossi swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Rossi misses with a straight left.
Jones feints the counter takedown.
Rossi throws a big shot that misses.
A combination from Rossi does no damage.
Jones is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A shot to the liver by Rossi. Beautiful body shot.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Gianluca Rossi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Jones.
Rossi misses with a series of wild punches.
Jones tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Rossi misses with an uppercut.
Rossi rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rossi won't be happy with that.
The referee asks Jones politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jones prefers to stall for the moment though.

Rossi pushes Jones away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jones gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Rossi bucks up and tries to throw Jones off but instead Jones has got his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gianluca Rossi dominated that second round.
That's time! Rossi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Rossi scores with a jab to the head.
A combination from Rossi does no damage.

Jones avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Rossi jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Rossi.
Rossi is looking to counter punch.
John Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
No luck for Jones with that takedown attempt.
Rossi throws a jab when Jones was well out of range.
Jones changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Rossi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rossi throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rossi.
Jones with the counter takedown but Rossi avoids it easily.
Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rossi is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Rossi circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones dives in and grabs Rossi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rossi pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.
Rossi went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Jones keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rossi.
Jones drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Rossi defends it well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rossi throws out a loose jab but Jones uses good head movement to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gianluca Rossi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rossi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
