PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Detektyw Pikachu (ranked 2468 p4p, 310 weight class) and Pauli Johansson (ranked 7156 p4p, 574 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Johansson, as that shot connected.
Johansson lands a right hook to the body.

Pikachu shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Johansson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Johansson told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pikachu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johansson, who protects the arm well.
Pikachu is looking to take a break and control but Johansson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pikachu has control of an arm but Johansson manages to advance to Pikachu's back!

I really don't envy Pikachu right now.

Johansson is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Johansson gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Johansson gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Johansson apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Pikachu seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Pikachu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johansson tries to avoid it but Pikachu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johansson to the ground. Johansson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johansson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Detektyw Pikachu will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Pikachu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johansson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pikachu somewhat.

Johansson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Pikachu can't fight it off and eventually Johansson manages to take the fight to the floor. Pikachu looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johansson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pikachu swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pikachu is looking for a triangle but Johansson pushes his legs off easily.

Pikachu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johansson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johansson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Johansson slaps away a takedown attempt from Pikachu, before circling back to the center of the mat.

It looks like Detektyw Pikachu has been cut.
Johansson connects with a looping right hand.
Pikachu doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Johansson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pikachu takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Pikachu has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Pikachu there as he acknowledges the shot.

Pikachu throws a right and a left that Johansson avoids nicely.

Pikachu is rocked!
Johansson cracks Pikachu on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Pikachu falls backwards against the cage. Johansson follows up with more strikes that drop Pikachu to his knees. Johansson keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Pikachu! This one is all over!
