PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daquan Bowman (ranked 1280 p4p, 144 weight class) and Sisu Sisu (ranked 1136 p4p, 130 weight class). Bowman has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Daquan Bowman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sisu Sisu!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowman's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Sisu connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Bowman scrambles back to his feet.
Bowman has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Sisu with a body punch. A glancing blow.
A slow jab from Bowman misses its intended target.

Sisu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sisu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee asks Sisu politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sisu prefers to stall for the moment though.

You can see the frustration on Bowman's face as Sisu controls the position.
It looks like Sisu might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bowman enables Sisu to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bowman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sisu works over Bowman with some ground and pound from guard.
Sisu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sisu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bowman manages to avoid it.
Sisu digs a good body shot into Bowman's ribs.
Sisu misses with a double jab.
Bowman scores with a leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bowman takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Sisu gets a takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sisu in particular looking to stall.

Sisu throws a body punch but Bowman moves out of range.

Sisu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Bowman connects with a body shot that sends Sisu's belly button to the back.

Bowman takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Bowman fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Bowman tries to move into range but Sisu moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Sisu throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bowman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Bowman moves forwards but Sisu connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bowman is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Sisu throws a shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sisu Sisu seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Sisu darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sisu wants to free his trapped foot but Bowman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Sisu is taking a breather. Bowman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Let's hope that Sisu has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bowman uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sisu.
Sisu takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Sisu lands with an uppercut that bounces Bowman off the cage and back into range.
Bowman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sisu moves away.
Sisu swings and misses with a hook to the body.
As Sisu backs away, Bowman returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Sisu scores with a hook to the body. Bowman takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Sisu looks to score with a jab to the body but Bowman is just out of range.

Sisu closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sisu lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bowman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sisu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Sisu is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sisu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bowman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Sisu Sisu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Sisu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bowman's waist but Bowman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sisu off to one side.
Bowman throws a right hand that Sisu ducks under and follows up with a left that Sisu also avoids with ease.
Sisu misses with a wild body shot.

Sisu cracks Bowman with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Bowman takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sisu takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Sisu drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bowman defends it well.
Sisu scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Bowman doesn't seem bothered though.
Sisu fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Bowman on the side of the head.
Sisu connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Bowman momentarily.

Sisu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Bowman can't keep his opponent in guard - Sisu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sisu is controlling the pace.
Sisu's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Daquan Bowman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sisu slows the pace down in half guard.

Sisu is continuing to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sisu Sisu is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bowman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sisu.
Sisu throws a body shot but no joy.

Sisu closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bowman did well to prevent Sisu getting side control.

Well Sisu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
