PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Neal Diaz (ranked 974 p4p, 124 weight class) and Uri Gellar (ranked 1368 p4p, 170 weight class). Gellar has chosen James Randi exposes Uri Geller as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neal Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Uri Gellar!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gellar throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Gellar doesn't manage to clinch there - Diaz circles away.

Diaz gets a takedown into half guard.
Diaz perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Diaz tries to pass to full mount but Gellar defends it.
We've been hearing that Diaz has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Gellar trying to control here.
Gellar might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Diaz haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz works his way into side control.
Diaz trying to control the position but Gellar is working away.

Gellar tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Diaz tries to move to mount but Gellar blocks the move with his legs.
Gellar tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it.
Gellar is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gellar can't do much from the bottom here.
Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Gellar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gellar takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Gellar stops Diaz from passing to mount.
Gellar tries to bench press Diaz off him but Diaz keeps the position.
Gellar manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gellar in particular looking to stall.
Diaz wants to improve his position but Gellar is controlling well.
Gellar tries to stand but can't do so whilst Diaz controls his leg.
Gellar trying to control from half guard but Diaz is working away.
Gellar is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gellar not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Gellar wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Gellar looks to land a strike but Diaz avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Diaz throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Diaz keeping moving, preventing Gellar from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Gellar misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Diaz moves out of range as Gellar strikes.
As Gellar looks to move away, Diaz throws a big counter combo but Gellar just gets out of the way.
Gellar fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Uri Gellar will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Diaz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Diaz lands an elbow inside.

Diaz breaks from the clinch.
Gellar with a jab.

Diaz feints and as Gellar raises his hands in defense, Diaz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Diaz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Diaz with a flurry of punches that miss.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Gellar keeps moving.
Diaz working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gellar wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Gellar tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Gellar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard.

Gellar trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gellar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gellar is fighting to break Diaz's control of his arms but Diaz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Gellar stands and throws Diaz's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Gellar throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Diaz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Diaz gets full guard.
Gellar trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gellar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gellar has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.
Gellar won't allow Diaz to sweep him here.

Gellar wants to pass the guard but Diaz is keeping the position.
Gellar wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.

Gellar throws a sloppy strike and Diaz has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Gellar is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Diaz!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Neal Diaz!
Neal Diaz opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
