PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anatoli Vasiliev (ranked 21621 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Wangler (ranked 1977 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Wangler's choice of entrance music: The Clash - I Fought The Law. On his way into the cage it seems that Anatoli Vasiliev has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Anatoli Vasiliev seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Anatoli Vasiliev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bobby Wangler!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasiliev throws a right hand that Wangler ducks under and follows up with a left that Wangler also avoids with ease.
Wangler avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wangler gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Vasiliev throws a one two combo.
Wangler misses with a hook.
Wangler fails to land with a series of punches.
Wangler lands a nice shot that snaps Vasiliev's head back.
Wangler has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Wangler has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wangler tries a head kick but it misses.
Wangler takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Vasiliev will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Vasiliev defending well as Wangler loads up on a big left hand.
Wangler seems to have recovered his senses.
Wangler throws out a loose jab but Vasiliev uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wangler fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Vasiliev looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Wangler throws a predictable looking body shot
and Vasiliev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wangler is looking to slow Vasiliev down with leg kicks.
Anatoli Vasiliev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wangler fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vasiliev manages to avoid it.
Vasiliev connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Vasiliev moves out of range of the strikes.
Vasiliev misses with the combination.

Wangler shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Wangler perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wangler thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vasiliev's head.

Wangler stops Vasiliev from getting back to his feet.
Wangler lands strikes from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vasiliev is trying to stand up here but Wangler is controlling him well.
Wangler looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Vasiliev wants to get back to his feet.
Wangler slows the pace down in half guard.
Wangler is keen to just control but Vasiliev is a slippery customer.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wangler connects with a nice short shot to Vasiliev's temple.
Wangler is looking to take a break and control but Vasiliev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vasiliev is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wangler scores with a couple of nice shots.
Wangler prevents Vasiliev from standing back up.
Wangler thows a huge punch but Vasiliev dodges it nicely.
Wangler slips a nice elbow through Vasiliev's hands, connecting with Vasiliev's forehead.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vasiliev manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Vasiliev looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Vasiliev fails with an attempt to clinch.
Vasiliev scores with a sloppy right hand. Wangler should have avoided that one.

Vasiliev scores with a decent looking hook.

Wangler gets a double leg takedown into Vasiliev's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vasiliev is looking to stand up but Wangler isn't so interested in that idea.
Wangler's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wangler trying to control the position from guard on top but Vasiliev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vasiliev is looking to stand up but Wangler isn't so interested in that idea.
Vasiliev seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Wangler seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Vasiliev is looking to stand up but Wangler isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That was a close round but I would say that Anatoli Vasiliev will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Vasiliev chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Wangler can pounce on him.
Vasiliev throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Anatoli Vasiliev is winning the standup battle so far.
Wangler throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vasiliev throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Vasiliev misses with an uppercut. Wangler saw that one coming.
Wangler jabs Vasiliev right on the nose. Vasiliev blinks but takes it well.

Wangler drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wangler is working Vasiliev over with some ground and pound from side control.
Vasiliev is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Wangler has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Wangler cracks Vasiliev with a big right hand but Vasiliev just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vasiliev is trying to get back to his feet.
Wangler misses with the ground and pound.

Wangler thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Wangler is working Vasiliev over with some ground and pound from side control.
Wangler content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Vasiliev is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Wangler is controlling him well.

Wangler thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Vasiliev pushes Wangler away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Wangler gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Wangler slows the pace down.
Wangler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Wangler is looking to take a break and control but Vasiliev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vasiliev wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Wangler closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vasiliev to the mat! Vasiliev manages to get full guard.
Vasiliev wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Wangler manages to pass to side control.

Vasiliev is refusing to be controlled, as Wangler sits in half guard.

Vasiliev is staying active underneath Wangler, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Wangler thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vasiliev's head.
Vasiliev pushes Wangler off looking to stand but Wangler dives back in and keeps control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wangler uses his free foot to push down on Vasiliev's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Vasiliev.
Vasiliev tries to buck Wangler off but he can't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Wangler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Vasiliev has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Wangler.
A punch lands to the side of Wangler 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Vasiliev tries to clinch
and Wangler counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Vasiliev throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Anatoli Vasiliev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wangler misses with a double jab.
Vasiliev scores with a punch to the head.
Wangler throws a body shot but no joy.
Vasiliev pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vasiliev avoids the head kick by Wangler.
Vasiliev misses with an uppercut.
Wangler scores with a body shot.
A combination from Vasiliev does no damage.
Wangler scores with a jab to the jaw.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Wangler counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Vasiliev! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Wangler!

Our winner, Bobby Wangler, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
