Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mervin Norman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Bud!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bud clinches.
Bud looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Bud being controlled against the cage.
Norman prevents Bud from breaking the clinch.
Norman just leaning against Bud, taking a breather.
Bud wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Norman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bud letting Norman take a breather here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Bud.
Norman keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bud's efforts to push away.

Norman has had enough of the clinch but Bud keeps him there for the moment.
A frustrated look appears on Bud's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Norman is looking to take this one to the mat.
Norman is trying to pull guard but Bud has him pressed against the cage.
Bud wants to break the clinch but can't.

Norman ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Norman no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Norman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Norman is trying to control the position but Bud postures up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Norman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bud manages to get himself to full guard.


Norman stands and steps away. Bud gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Norman gets tackled into the cage by Bud. Bud maintains the clinch.

Norman stalls.
The referee is keeping an eye on Norman - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Norman tries to work over Bud's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Norman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Norman bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Bud swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Norman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Norman.
Norman misses with a body punch.

Norman successfully pulls guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Norman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bud manages to get himself to full guard.

Bud has a closed guard, preventing Norman from standing up.
Norman is looking to work some ground and pound but Bud has wrist control.
Norman with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bud is trying to control the position but Norman postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Norman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bud works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Norman postures up in Bud's guard and throws a big left but Bud blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mervin Norman dominated that round.
That's time! Norman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A looping hook to the body misses from Bud. Norman does a little dance to reset his feet.

Bud has closed the distance and engaged Norman in a clinch.
Norman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Norman is trying to pull guard but Bud turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mervin Norman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A frustrated look appears on Bud's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Norman's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Norman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A punch combination from Bud misses.
Norman lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Bud darts in and clinches Norman up against the cage.

Norman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bud misses with the combination.
James Bud is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Norman lands a leg kick that knocks Bud off balance momentarily.
Bud throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Norman feinted with a counter takedown.
Norman dodges the punch combination from Bud.

Bud takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Norman shoots in but no luck this time.
Bud on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Norman. Norman obviously looking to wear him down.
A swing and a miss from Norman.
A head kick from Norman lands but Bud takes it in his stride.
Bud throws a body shot but no joy.
Bud takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Norman moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Norman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bud but Bud pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Norman is defended easily by Bud.
Bud lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Norman at a distance.
Norman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bud can do to turn this around?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Norman lands with a kick to the temple. Bud shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mervin Norman will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Bud throws a right and a left that both miss.

Norman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Norman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ground and pound from Norman seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Bud takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Norman throws an elbow but Bud slips to the side and avoids it well.
Norman in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Norman misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Norman creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Bud sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Norman looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Bud is avoiding damage well.
Bud is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Norman asserts his dominance and retains side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Norman looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Bud is avoiding damage well.
Bud takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Norman working the ground and pound but Bud is defending the strikes.
Bud parries the strikes from Norman easily there. Norman is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Bud to escape.
Norman misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Norman throws a head kick that half lands.

Bud darts in and clinches Norman up against the cage.
Norman pushes Bud back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Norman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Norman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A right-left combo lands from Bud.
Bud misses with a body shot.
Norman is looking to counter with head kicks.
Norman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bud avoids it really well and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Norman darts in looking for a takedown but Bud gets double underhooks and turns Norman into the cage.
Bud misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Norman throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Norman throws a head kick but Bud moves out of range.

Bud fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Norman, pushing him back against the cage.
Bud wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Norman has him pressed against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bud is trying to break the clinch but Norman is controlling him.
James Bud has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mervin Norman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bud is looking to break free of the clinch but Norman has double underhooks.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mervin Norman.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Norman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
