PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Szymon Kasprzyk (ranked 5910 p4p, 425 weight class) and Nejc Majcen (ranked 6566 p4p, 445 weight class). Nejc Majcen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Topper Green and Darius Henderson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Majcen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
No luck for Kasprzyk with that takedown attempt.

Majcen has Kasprzyk up against the cage in a clinch.
Majcen has had enough of the clinch but Kasprzyk keeps him there for the moment.

Majcen throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kasprzyk counters with a single leg into guard. Majcen didn't expect that.
Majcen is looking to stand back up but Kasprzyk counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Majcen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Majcen is looking for a sweep. Kasprzyk is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Majcen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Majcen stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Majcen wants to get back to his feet but Kasprzyk drags him back down.

Kasprzyk decides to stand up, so the ref orders Majcen to his feet.
Majcen connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Majcen shoots for a takedown but Kasprzyk saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
As Majcen looks to move away, Kasprzyk throws a big counter combo but Majcen just gets out of the way.
Majcen lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Majcen.
Kasprzyk keeps the fight on the outside.
Majcen paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Majcen looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Majcen throws a series of punches but Kasprzyk avoids them all with ease.
Majcen lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Kasprzyk forces Majcen back against the cage and clinches.
Kasprzyk jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Majcen walks away with a smile on his face. Kasprzyk gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Szymon Kasprzyk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kasprzyk goes for a double leg but Majcen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Majcen continues to drive forward.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kasprzyk looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Majcen is fending him off so far but Kasprzyk persists. Nope, Majcen circles away and we're back to standing.

Kasprzyk gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Kasprzyk takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Despite the aggression on Majcen's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nejc Majcen will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Majcen has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Kasprzyk keeps the fight on the outside.

Kasprzyk went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Majcen looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Kasprzyk has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Majcen uses from the top position.

Majcen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kasprzyk swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Majcen wants to stand but Kasprzyk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Majcen won't allow Kasprzyk to sweep him here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kasprzyk closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Majcen is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kasprzyk fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Majcen sprawls well initially but Kasprzyk persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Majcen wants to stand back up but Kasprzyk manages to pass into side control.

Kasprzyk has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Majcen is breathing heavily.
Majcen is looking to clinch.
Kasprzyk shoots in looking for a takedown but Majcen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kasprzyk's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kasprzyk looks to land a body kick but Majcen moved away.
Majcen stuns Kasprzyk with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Majcen gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kasprzyk to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Majcen throws a right hand that Kasprzyk ducks under and follows up with a left that Kasprzyk also avoids with ease.
Kasprzyk doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Majcen misses with a few strikes there.
Majcen tries a head kick but it misses.
Kasprzyk throws a solid leg kick but Majcen takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kasprzyk.

Kasprzyk shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Majcen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kasprzyk's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Kasprzyk passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kasprzyk staying calm.
Majcen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kasprzyk's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kasprzyk has closed the distance and engaged Majcen in a clinch.
Kasprzyk can't get the takedown.

Kasprzyk pulls guard successfully.
Kasprzyk wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Kasprzyk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Majcen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kasprzyk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kasprzyk had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Majcen defends it easily.

Majcen wants to stand but Kasprzyk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kasprzyk pulls Majcen in close to his closed guard and prevents Majcen from doing any damage or advancing position.
Kasprzyk might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kasprzyk continues to stall.

Kasprzyk has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Majcen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kasprzyk is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Majcen presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
