PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alex Vargas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Durham Mike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike has chosen Young by Hollywood Undead as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mike slips under a jab from Vargas.

Mike closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vargas to the mat! Vargas manages to get full guard.
Vargas controls Mike momentarily but Mike frees himself.
Mike stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vargas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mike trying to control the position from guard on top but Vargas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vargas is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Mike thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vargas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mike's guard.
Vargas has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mike working for a triangle but Vargas defends it easily.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mike holds on and takes a little breather.

Vargas has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mike is proving hard to escape from.
Mike is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Vargas wants to improve his position but Mike is controlling well.
Vargas is trying to control but can't.
Mike takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mike moves into full mount! Vargas won't be happy about that!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Vargas tries to hold on but Mike postures up.
Mike fails to advance to Vargas's back.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mike is landing with some decent strikes but Vargas is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Vargas wants to control but Mike is having none of it.

Mike jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Vargas is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Vargas and Mike has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Mike is going olschool here, as he tries to force Vargas to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Vargas shrugs it off.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vargas is trying to escape the mount.
Mike is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Vargas can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mike thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Mike's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Vargas misses with an uppercut. Mike saw that one coming.

Vargas loads up on a big right hand but Mike slips the punch.

Vargas is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mike.

Durham Mike is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Vargas cracks Mike with a right hand to the side of the head.
Mike takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Alex Vargas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mike uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Vargas.
Mike looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vargas throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mike sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Vargas catches Mike with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Mike takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Mike drops his hands momentarily and Vargas takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Mike tries to move into range but Vargas moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Vargas connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Mike's hands.

Vargas scores with the left hand. Mike knows he should have avoided that one.

Mike takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mike tries to clinch there but Vargas circles away.

Vargas is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Vargas misses with a hook. Mike ducked under it nicely.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Vargas stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Mike walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mike will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Mike tries to bum rush Vargas with a series of wild strikes but Vargas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Mike bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Vargas is trying to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mike has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Vargas looks to land a left hand but Mike moved out of range nicely.

Mike drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vargas looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vargas looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vargas!

Vargas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vargas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
