PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oleksander Kurtzov (ranked 1968 p4p, 250 weight class) and Tony Winkle (ranked 1400 p4p, 191 weight class). Kurtzov comes to the cage accompanied by Imperial March. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oleksander Kurtzov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Tony Winkle!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Winkle misses with a short punch on the inside.
Kurtzov jumps guard but Winkle stands there with Kurtzov around his waist. Kurtzov gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Winkle is working Kurtzov over against the cage.
Winkle stalling in the clinch but Kurtzov improves position.
Winkle misses with a body punch.
Kurtzov blocks the elbow strike.
Winkle trying to stall but Kurtzov improves his position.

Winkle drags the fight down to the ground.
Winkle keeping moving, preventing Kurtzov from controlling successfully.
Kurtzov is looking to pass into half guard but Winkle pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Winkle is in guard.

Winkle trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kurtzov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Kurtzov looking for a guillotine here but Winkle defends easily.
Winkle tries to free his leg and advance position but Kurtzov is retaining full guard.
Winkle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Winkle keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kurtzov's head.

Kurtzov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Winkle stacks Kurtzov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Winkle!
Winkle works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Winkle creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.


Kurtzov is rocked!
Winkle landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Oh Kurtzov is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kurtzov is looking for a sweep.
Winkle cracks Kurtzov with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Winkle immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Kurtzov is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Winkle!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tony Winkle!
An out of breath Tony Winkle thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
