Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Troy Hooper (ranked 426 p4p, 61 weight class) and Alessandro Orsini (ranked 851 p4p, 109 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Troy Hooper!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alessandro Orsini!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hooper lands a lovely overhand right.
Hooper takes a swing at Orsini's ribcage but misses.
Orsini pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Orsini swings for the body but Hooper moves out of range.
Orsini missing with a left hand there. Hooper was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hooper works the jab nicely.
Hooper lands a jab to Orsini's midsection.
Hooper loads up on a big right hand but Orsini slips the punch.
Hooper swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hooper just misses with a punch to the body.
Hooper uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Orsini.
Orsini uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hooper.
Orsini ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hooper moves away.
Hooper feinted with a counter takedown.
A solid leg kick lands there for Hooper.
Orsini throws a jab but it's blocked by Hooper.
Orsini avoids a punch combination nicely.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Hooper.
Hooper misses with a low kick.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Orsini on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Orsini throws out a loose jab but Hooper uses good head movement to avoid it.
Orsini moves out of range of the strikes.

Hooper will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

And Orsini responds with a good body kick, but Hooper manages to step out the way in time.
Hooper slips a jab and a cross from Orsini.
Hooper has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Team Croatia in the buildup to the fight.
Orsini just misses with a punch to the body.
Hooper lands a nice shot to the body.
Orsini throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hooper lands with a shot to the body.
Hooper slips a straight right by Orsini.
Hooper bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Orsini throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hooper swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Orsini.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hooper gets a takedown into half guard.
Hooper looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Orsini with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hooper looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Hooper seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Orsini is trying to maintain the position but Hooper is very close to passing his half guard.

Hooper is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Orsini is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


No joy there for Hooper, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hooper does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Orsini slips under a jab.
Hooper takes a jab right on the kisser.
Hooper misses with a looping right.

Hooper manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Orsini on his heels. He'll look to pass Orsini's guard now, I'm sure.
Orsini has momentary wrist control but Hooper slips an elbow through the middle.

Orsini has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hooper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Orsini is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hooper got a little sloppy there for a moment and Orsini has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hooper has managed to get both his arms back between Orsini's legs - danger averted.

After the fight, Alessandro Orsini was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
