PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Beast (ranked 856 p4p, 115 weight class) and Lyoto Yoshida (ranked 3281 p4p, 353 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Beast!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyoto Yoshida!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beast uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Yoshida has time to react.


It looks like Lyoto Yoshida has been cut.
Beast blocks a jab.
Yoshida tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Beast manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Beast lands with a cross.
Yoshida shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Beast pinned against the ropes. Beast gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Beast lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
A slow jab from Yoshida misses its intended target.
Beast digs a good body shot into Yoshida's ribs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yoshida misses with a straight left.
Beast stuffs the takedown.
Beast uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Yoshida.
Yoshida takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Yoshida throws a shot from downtown. Beast moves away and avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yoshida tries to clinch but Beast is having none of it.
Beast changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Yoshida throws a right hand that misses

and Beast counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Yoshida!
Yoshida wants to get back to his feet.

Beast looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Beast working the ground and pound.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Beast in side control, throwing shots but Yoshida defends.
Beast working the head and body with strikes.
Beast wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yoshida keeps working.
Beast works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yoshida is trying to control Beast's posture but Beast avoids it.
Sloppy strikes there by Beast.

Beast swings around for an armbar but Yoshida sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Beast's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Yoshida showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Beast escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yoshida gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Beast not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Yoshida chips away with some ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yoshida slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Yoshida trying to control but Beast is working from the bottom.
Beast looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yoshida is one step ahead there.

Yoshida got a little sloppy there for a moment and Beast has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Yoshida has managed to get both his arms back between Beast's legs - danger averted.
Yoshida must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Beast preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Yoshida seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Beast manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yoshida manages to get himself to full guard.

Beast missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Yoshida looking to hit a scissor sweep but Beast is one step ahead there.

Yoshida working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Beast has passed into half guard!
Yoshida makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Yoshida.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Beast dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Lyoto Yoshida's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Yoshida misses with a left hand

and Beast counters with a single leg into guard. Yoshida didn't expect that.
Beast throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Yoshida looking for a sweep. Not yet Yoshida, not yet.
Beast lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've been hearing that Beast has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Beast has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Beast postures up.
Beast postures up in Yoshida's guard and throws a big left but Yoshida blocks it.
Yoshida wants to control the position but Beast says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Beast scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Beast passes to side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yoshida parries the strikes from Beast easily there. Beast is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Yoshida to escape.
Beast scores with punches from side control.
Beast looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Yoshida is avoiding damage well.
Yoshida can't do much from the bottom here.

Yoshida is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Beast's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Dave Beast overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Beast takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.


Yoshida is rocked!
Beast lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Yoshida quite badly. Yoshida pulls Beast in close trying to recover. Beast postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Yoshida on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Yoshida doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dave Beast!
