PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andre Mahesa (ranked 3988 p4p, 344 weight class) and Roberto Soldic (ranked 4170 p4p, 354 weight class). Mahesa kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is You're Going Down . Soldic has chosen Come With Me as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andre Mahesa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roberto Soldic!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mahesa takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mahesa shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Soldic but Soldic pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Soldic connects with a crisp jab.
Soldic throws a nice outside leg kick.
Soldic scores with a one two! Mahesa had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Mahesa avoids a kick to the body.
Mahesa feinted with a counter takedown.
Soldic throws an overhand right that lands on Mahesa's shoulder, as Mahesa tries to avoid the shot.
Soldic keeps Mahesa at a distance using the push kick.
Soldic misses with a hook.
Soldic throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Soldic throws a hook to the side of Mahesa's head but Mahesa sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Soldic moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Soldic throws a looping overhand right but Mahesa ducks down to avoid it.
Soldic scores with a nice right hand.
Soldic looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mahesa uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Soldic.
Mahesa has his takedown stuffed
and Soldic counters with a stiff right hand.
Soldic pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Soldic changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Soldic swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Soldic throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mahesa misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Soldic throws a head kick but Mahesa moves out of range.
Mahesa changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Soldic works the jab nicely.

Mahesa takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Soldic throws a right and a left that both miss.

Soldic throws the left hand but Mahesa avoids the punch easily.
Mahesa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The fighters circle momentarily. Soldic darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Mahesa has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Soldic.
Soldic fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mahesa has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Mahesa shoots in for a double leg but Soldic sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Roberto Soldic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Soldic throws a poor cross that misses

and Mahesa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mahesa.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soldic wants to stand up but Mahesa is controlling him.
Soldic looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Mahesa throws a big right hand that misses.

Soldic is pulling down on Mahesa's head to control his posture.
Mahesa stands and throws Soldic's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mahesa working the strikes but Soldic uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Soldic makes his way to full guard, as Mahesa worked for a kimura.
Mahesa throws a big elbow that misses.
Mahesa won't allow Soldic to sweep him here.

Mahesa drops back, looking for a kneebar! Soldic looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Soldic looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Soldic!

Mahesa is trying to get back to half guard.

Mahesa is working hard here to advance position.
Soldic wants to stand but Mahesa has his arm trapped.

Soldic decides to stand back up. Soldic steps back and let's Mahesa get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roberto Soldic dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Soldic looks to throw the jab but Mahesa is out of range.
Soldic turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Good leg kick by Soldic there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Mahesa moves out of range as Soldic strikes.

Mahesa fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Soldic sprawls well initially but Mahesa persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Soldic wants to get back to full guard.

Mahesa is working for a submission of some sort.

Mahesa looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mahesa seems to be looking for submissions.

Mahesa is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Soldic is just riding it out for now. Mahesa eventually gives up the hold.
Soldic works his way to full guard. Good work.
Mahesa with a flurry of punches that miss.
Soldic is adopting a defensive guard.
Mahesa throws an elbow that misses. Soldic uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mahesa's guard. Nice move by Soldic!

Soldic seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mahesa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Soldic defends well.
Mahesa seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Mahesa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Soldic stands and throws Mahesa's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Soldic connects with the punch.
Mahesa uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Soldic.

Soldic scores with a sloppy right hand. Mahesa should have avoided that one.
Mahesa's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Soldic connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Mahesa scrambles back to his feet.

Soldic fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Mahesa moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Oh Mahesa is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A good leg kick by Soldic.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Soldic moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Soldic lands a big head kick that sends Mahesa to the canvas! Soldic follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
