The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes shoots for a double leg takedown but Fafa sprawls well. He's pushed Mendes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mendes shoots and misses
and Fafa counters with a two punch combo.
Mendes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Fafa has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mendes is landing a low percentage of strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fernando Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mendes is rocked!

and Fafa makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Fafa throws a combination. Mendes tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Oh Mendes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mendes takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Fafa throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Mendes stumbling backwards into the cage! Mendes bounces back off the cage towards Fafa, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Fafa lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Fafa celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
