PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Segey Taranin (ranked 3639 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Oddie (ranked 2941 p4p, 275 weight class). Oddie is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Wild Thing. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bill Oddie!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Taranin - just one landing.
Oddie throws a head kick but Taranin moves out of range.
Taranin moves out of range of the strikes.
Taranin connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Bill Oddie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oddie throws a sloppy head kick
and Oddie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Oddie throws a right hand that Taranin ducks under and follows up with a left that Taranin also avoids with ease.
Oddie goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Taranin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Taranin avoids the head kick by Oddie.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Taranin, as that shot connected.
Oddie throws a solid leg kick but Taranin takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Oddie.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Oddie throws a hook but Taranin blocks it.
Oddie throws a head kick that Taranin semi-blocks.
Oddie lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Oddie told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Taranin connects with a nice short shot to Oddie's temple.

Oddie pushes Taranin off looking to stand but Taranin dives back in and keeps control.
Taranin is keen to just control but Oddie is a slippery customer.

Oddie is trying to stand up here but Taranin is controlling him well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oddie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Taranin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Taranin misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Oddie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Taranin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Taranin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
