PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Blood (ranked 231 p4p, 33 weight class) and Professor Xe (ranked 340 p4p, 50 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Blood might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Raining Blood - Slayer. Professor Xe has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Blood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Professor Xe!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blood wants to clinch up but Xe keeps it at a distance.
Xe throws a big shot that misses.
Xe displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Blood.
Xe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Blood.

Blood decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Blood performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Blood wants to pass the guard but Xe is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Blood looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Blood thows a huge punch but Xe dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Xe tries to get to full guard but Blood has control of the leg.
Blood performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Blood is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Xe desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Xe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Xe is concentrating on defense, preventing Blood from advancing position.

Blood is looking for a kimura but Xe is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Blood to get the leverage.
Xe trying to control but Blood postures up.
Blood is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Blood throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Blood working over Xe with some ground and pound. Xe looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Xe trying to hold on to Blood's head to control him but Blood postures up.

Blood is stalling here. Xe is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Blood seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Xe has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Xe working the strikes but Blood uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Xe working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Blood's thigh. Blood counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Blood has control of Xe's left arm, preventing Xe from doing any damage.

Blood looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Blood pulls Xe in to control the position.
Xe not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Xe postures up in Blood's guard and throws a big left but Blood blocks it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Xe trying to control the position from guard on top but Blood is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Xe being controlled here momentarily.

Xe misses with a body shot.

Blood moves into range and clinches up with Xe.
Blood misses with a short punch on the inside.
Blood lands a hook that snaps the head of Xe backwards.

Xe blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Xe misses with a punch to the body.
Blood drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Xe gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Blood is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Xe can do to turn this around?

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Xe swings wildly with an uppercut but Blood uses good head movement to avoid it.
Xe struggles to land a body shot inside as Blood controls his hands.

Blood has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Xe uses from the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Blood uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Xe.
Blood tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Xe was well out of range. Poor timing from Blood.
Xe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Blood manages to avoid it.
Blood drops down looking for a counter takedown but Xe sprawls and moves away.
Xe lands a jab to the head.
Xe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Blood.
Blood throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Blood shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Xe as he jumps to the side.
Blood is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Xe uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Blood has time to react.

Xe looks to score with a jab to the body but Blood is just out of range.
Xe misses the shot to the body.
Blood throws a poor cross that misses
and Xe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Xe throws the left hand but Blood avoids the punch easily.
Blood attempts a counter takedown but Xe avoids it well and moves away.

Blood changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Xe looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Xe tries to bench press Blood off him but Blood keeps the position.
Blood is looking to take a break and control but Xe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Xe holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Blood is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Xe will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Xe is trying to control Blood's posture but Blood avoids it.

Blood misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Blood thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Blood tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Blood is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Xe has escaped the position, nice work there.
Blood throwing shots but missing, from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Blood will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Xe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Xe looking to sit in guard and control but Blood gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jack Blood overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Xe working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Blood doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Blood manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Blood slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Blood is looking to take a break and control but Xe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Blood takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Blood fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Xe to the ground. Blood is now in Xe's guard.
Xe keeping full guard, as Blood tries to pass.
Xe is trying to keep Blood in close.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Professor Xe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Xe lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Blood showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Blood, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
