PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pascala Oaza (ranked 3956 p4p, 406 weight class) and Jacob Spirit (ranked 23915 p4p, 552 weight class). Jacob Spirit struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pascala Oaza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jacob Spirit!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oaza misses with an attempted mid kick.
Spirit looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Oaza clinches up with Spirit and pushes him back against the cage.

Oaza pulls guard successfully.
Spirit is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Oaza will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Oaza is trying to control the position but Spirit postures up.
Oaza is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Oaza is looking for a triangle but Spirit pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oaza throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Spirit seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Spirit stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Spirit wants it to stay on the feet.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Spirit manages to break the clinch.
Oaza keeps Spirit at a distance using the push kick.
Oaza shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Spirit sprawls well. Spirit wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Oaza gets slowly back to his feet.
A left and a right from Oaza both land. Nice combination.

Spirit misses with a body punch.
Oaza is trying to pull guard but Spirit turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Pascala Oaza dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Oaza.

and Oaza counters with a nice uppercut.

Oaza fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Spirit, pushing him back against the cage.

Oaza looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Spirit is fending him off so far but Oaza persists. Nope, Spirit circles away and we're back to standing.
Spirit is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Oaza lands with a nice combination. Spirit backs away looking to recover.
Oaza scores with a one two! Spirit had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Oaza is looking to clinch.
Oaza shoots in looking for a takedown but Spirit manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Oaza's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Spirit stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oaza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Oaza wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

My spies in GYM inform me that Spirit has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Oaza working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Spirit doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Spirit manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Spirit blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Spirit jumps guard but Oaza stands there with Spirit around his waist. Spirit gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Spirit wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Spirit is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Oaza has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Spirit is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Oaza breaks the clinch.
Spirit tries to close the distance and clinch but Oaza swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Spirit stuffs the takedown.
Spirit lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Spirit takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Oaza or perhaps it was just good defense by Spirit, which made it look bad.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
