PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Davido Monto (ranked 1157 p4p, 160 weight class) and Abed Nadir (ranked 1929 p4p, 247 weight class). Nadir has chosen Paul Hertzog - Fight to survive as his entrance music. Abed Nadir told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Davido Monto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Abed Nadir!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monto avoids the head kick by Nadir.
Monto tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Nadir manages to circle out of the way.

Monto shoots in and gets a takedown into Nadir's guard.
Nadir is looking to stand up but Monto isn't so interested in that idea.

Monto drops back, looking for a kneebar! Nadir looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Nadir looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Nadir!

Monto is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Nadir stands up.
Abed Nadir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nadir connects with a jab.
Nadir throws a body punch but Monto moves out of range.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Monto is defended easily by Nadir.

We've been hearing reports that Monto has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Monto drops down looking for a counter takedown but Nadir sprawls and moves away.

Monto has gone for a leg lock! Nadir slips out almost immediately though and dives into Monto's guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nadir wants to stand but Monto is controlling his posture from full guard.

Monto is looking for a triangle but Nadir pushes his legs off easily.

Monto has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nadir can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Monto is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nadir is aware though and is defending well.

Nadir stands and steps away. Monto gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Monto.

Monto shoots in and drives through. Nadir sprawls well.

Monto has control of Nadir's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Nadir regains control of the situation pretty easily.
You get the feeling that Nadir really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Monto is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Nadir is surviving well by controlling Monto's body position as best he can.
Nadir is trying to stand up.
Nadir holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Monto tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Monto goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Nadir is on top in guard.

Monto had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nadir defends it easily.

Monto has his foot on Nadir's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nadir works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abed Nadir dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Nadir fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nadir uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Nice sprawl there from Nadir as Monto shoots in.
Nadir loads up on a big right hand but Monto slips the punch.
Monto darts in looking for a takedown but Nadir gets double underhooks and turns Monto into the cage.
Nadir slaps away a takedown attempt from Monto, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Nadir throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Oh but Monto is tightening it up a little... Nadir has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Nadir reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Nadir taps out! Nice BJJ there by Monto!
