PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kobayashi Jin (ranked 289 p4p, 46 weight class) and Carl Sweetchuck (ranked 1788 p4p, 232 weight class). Sweetchuck has chosen Police Academy as his entrance music. Kobayashi Jin is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kobayashi Jin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Carl Sweetchuck!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sweetchuck shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Jin connects with the punch.
Sweetchuck moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Kobayashi Jin has been cut.
Jin has a takedown stuffed.
Sweetchuck misses with an uppercut. Jin saw that one coming.
Sweetchuck looks to land a right hand but Jin moved out of range.
A left and a right from Jin both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Carl Sweetchuck has been cut.
Jin throws an overhand right that lands on Sweetchuck's shoulder, as Sweetchuck tries to avoid the shot.
Sweetchuck has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Sweetchuck uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jin.
A nice side step and Sweetchuck releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Kobayashi Jin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jin throws a body punch but Sweetchuck moves out of range.
Sweetchuck looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Sweetchuck moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jin misses with a right hand
and Sweetchuck cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jin swings for the body but Sweetchuck moves out of range.

Jin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sweetchuck.

Sweetchuck tries to sprawl but Jin drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Sweetchuck is not content to let Jin control the position.
Jin prevents Sweetchuck from standing back up.
Sweetchuck wants to control but Jin is keeping busy.

Sweetchuck is defending against the submission attempts here by Jin.

Jin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sweetchuck is just riding it out for now. Jin eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sweetchuck has managed to free his arm - good work.

Jin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Sweetchuck tries to roll over but Jin keeps him under control.

Jin trying to work for an americana but Sweetchuck has managed to regain full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sweetchuck controls Jin momentarily but Jin frees himself.
Jin trying to control but Sweetchuck is working from the bottom.
Jin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jin wants to control from the top but Sweetchuck keeps moving.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jin is defended easily by Sweetchuck.
Sweetchuck is looking for the big counter here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sweetchuck takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Sweetchuck misses with a hook.
Sweetchuck keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Nice straight punches there by Jin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Jin.
Jin is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Sweetchuck misses with a straight left.
Sweetchuck slips under a jab from Jin.
Sweetchuck looks like he wants to counter punch here.
A punch lands to the side of Sweetchuck 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Jin goes for a double leg but Sweetchuck avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sweetchuck continues to drive forward.
Sweetchuck throws out a counter right but Jin avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kobayashi Jin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jin walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Sweetchuck takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Sweetchuck misses with a wild body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Carl Sweetchuck will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Sweetchuck looks to land a left hand but Jin moved out of range nicely.
Sweetchuck takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jin closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Jin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sweetchuck.
Jin misses with a looping left.
A little jabbing left from Sweetchuck on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jin throws a series of punches but Sweetchuck moves out of range.
Jin misses with a looping left.
Jin misses with a straight right.
Jin connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sweetchuck jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jin changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Sweetchuck misses with a jab to the body

and Jin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jin is looking for a kimura but Sweetchuck is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jin to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sweetchuck is trying to get back to full guard.

Sweetchuck is not content to let Jin control the position.
Sweetchuck keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Jin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Jin not doing much here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jin passes the guard and advances to mount!
Jin seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Sweetchuck is holding on tight.
Jin wants to control the pace but Sweetchuck is squirming around nicely.
Jin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sweetchuck tries to reverse the position but Jin maintains control.

Sweetchuck wants to hold on but Jin pushes him away.
Jin controlling his opponent.
Kobayashi Jin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jin avoids the attempt from Sweetchuck to control.
Jin looking to control but Sweetchuck is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Sweetchuck tries to reverse the position but Jin maintains control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Sweetchuck is trying desperately to improve position.
Jin wants to control the pace but Sweetchuck is squirming around nicely.
Sweetchuck wants to control but Jin is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sweetchuck is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kobayashi Jin dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Sweetchuck throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sweetchuck takes one to the chin there.
Jin lands a jab.
Jin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Sweetchuck misses with a looping left.

Jin fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Jin connects with a nice looking jab.
Jin throws a hook to the side of Sweetchuck's head but Sweetchuck sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jin misses with a straight right.
Jin dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
It looks like Jin has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Jin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sweetchuck stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Jin looks to score with a jab to the body but Sweetchuck is just out of range.
Sweetchuck misses with a straight left.
Sweetchuck jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jin sizes up Sweetchuck with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Jin cracks Sweetchuck with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Jin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sweetchuck moves away.
Sweetchuck misses with a straight right.
Jin is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Jin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Jin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sweetchuck is trying to get back to full guard.

Jin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Sweetchuck is staying active underneath Jin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sweetchuck is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jin is controlling the pace.
Jin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sweetchuck does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Sweetchuck is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sweetchuck on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Carl Sweetchuck is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jin throws a good cross that connects.
Sweetchuck looks to land a right hand but Jin moved out of range.

Kobayashi Jin showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
