PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Dannis (ranked 2413 p4p, 258 weight class) and Alejandro Lozano (ranked 3457 p4p, 355 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Douglas Dannis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alejandro Lozano!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lozano throws a lazy uppercut
and Dannis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Dannis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Dannis stalls.
Dannis digs a right hand underneath Lozano's ribcage. Lozano let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Dannis keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Lozano's efforts to push away.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Dannis.

Dannis has Lozano pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dannis pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Lozano tumbling to the mat - Dannis dives into Lozano's guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Dannis's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Dannis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dannis stops Lozano from standing up.
Lozano is looking to stand back up but Dannis counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Lozano.
Dannis controlling the pace.
Dannis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Lozano is trying to stand back up but Dannis is controlling him
Dannis is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Dannis frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Dannis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lozano looks a forlorn figure.

Lozano is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Dannis controlling the pace for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lozano is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Dannis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dannis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Lozano really wants to buck Dannis off and get back to his feet.
Dannis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lozano is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lozano squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Dannis has control of Lozano's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Lozano regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lozano is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Dannis dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dannis keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Lozano.
Dannis seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Dannis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Lozano.

Dannis pushes Lozano up against the cage in a clinch.
Lozano is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Lozano tries to break the clinch but Dannis is controlling the position.
Dannis is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Dannis pushes Lozano back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A frustrated look appears on Lozano's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Dannis lands a body punch in the clinch.

Dannis lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Dannis prevents Lozano from breaking the clinch.
Dannis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lozano can do to turn this around?
Lozano is trying to break free.

Dannis manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Dannis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lozano's guard.

Dannis passes Lozano's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Lozano is trying to stand back up but Dannis is controlling him
Dannis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Lozano pushes Dannis off looking to stand but Dannis dives back in and keeps control.
Dannis performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Douglas Dannis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Dannis.
Lozano tries to kick Dannis off in order to stand up. Dannis Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dannis controls the position.
Dannis works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Dannis controlling the position from side mount.
Dannis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Lozano wants to get back to his feet but Dannis is dominant here and he's now got Lozano's back!
Lozano is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Dannis has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Lozano is in real trouble here. Dannis gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Lozano is tapping out! Dannis wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Douglas Dannis!
