Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mario Diaz (ranked 2355 p4p, 257 weight class) and Alexander Mokete (ranked 2498 p4p, 270 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Troublesome '96 - 2pac. Mario Diaz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mario Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexander Mokete!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mokete darts in and clinches Diaz up against the cage.

Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mokete drops his hands momentarily and Diaz takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Diaz misses with a low kick.

Diaz gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Diaz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mokete with a nice cross.
Mokete tries for a takedown but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mokete misses the jab.
Diaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mokete.
Mokete cracks a nice hook into Diaz's ribs.

Diaz closes the distance and pushes Mokete back into the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mokete lands with a light punch inside.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mokete is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mokete takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Alexander Mokete has been cut.
Diaz keeps the fight on the outside.

Mokete clinches with his opponent.

Diaz manages to break the clinch.
Diaz keeps the fight on the outside.
Diaz gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Mokete.

Diaz tries to keep at a distance but Mokete has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mokete is looking to break free of the clinch but Diaz has double underhooks.
Mokete is trying to pull guard but Diaz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Mokete has picked Diaz up - he's going for a ride! Mokete dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Diaz is trying to get back to full guard.
Mokete seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diaz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Diaz tries to kick Mokete off but Mokete keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Diaz pushes Mokete off and gets back to his feet.
Diaz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Mokete lunges at Diaz with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Diaz's hand.
Diaz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Diaz wants it to stay on the feet.
Diaz seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Mario Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Mokete.
Mokete misses with a looping right.
An attempted straight right counter from Diaz misses the target.
Sloppy strikes from Diaz. Those never looked like landing.
Diaz swinging wildly here.
Diaz jabs Mokete right on the nose. Mokete blinks but takes it well.
Diaz scores with a hook to the body. Mokete takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

And Mokete tries to counter it with a takedown but Diaz pushes his down on his head and steps out.

A telegraphed right hand from Mokete misses the target.
Mokete avoids a punch combination nicely.
Diaz lands a jab to the head.
Diaz lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Diaz getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Mokete looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Alexander Mokete seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mokete takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Diaz has closed the distance and engaged Mokete in a clinch.
Mokete jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Diaz walks away with a smile on his face. Mokete gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mokete moves out of range of the body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz misses with a hook.

Diaz tries to keep at a distance but Mokete has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mokete looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Mokete tries to pull guard but Diaz holds him up against the cage and eventually Mokete drops back down to his feet.

Diaz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mokete shoots and misses
and Mokete takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mario Diaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mokete throws the left hand but Diaz avoids the punch easily.
Diaz sizes up Mokete with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.


That has opened up Alexander Mokete's cut even more.
Nice cross by Diaz.


Mokete is rocked!
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mario Diaz dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alexander Mokete's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diaz lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Diaz.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch but Mokete swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mokete closes the distance looking to clinch
and Diaz counters with a one-two to the body.
Mokete is still on wobbly legs! Can Diaz finish him?
Diaz throws a front kick aimed at Mokete's knee but Mokete avoids it well.
Mokete seems to have recovered his senses.
Diaz walks into a stiff left hand from Mokete.

Oooooh!!! Diaz has knocked Mokete down with a huge combo! Diaz steps away and waves a wobbly Mokete back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mokete throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Diaz counters with a series of strikes that practically lifts Mokete off his feet! He tumbles backwards, his head bouncing off the mat - Diaz follows up with more strikes before the ref can step in but Mokete was out before he hit the floor.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Mario Diaz!
A less than humble Mario Diaz misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
