PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Menezes (ranked 3416 p4p, 363 weight class) and Erik Lundquist (ranked 4990 p4p, 450 weight class). Lundquist has chosen Trigger as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vitor Menezes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Erik Lundquist!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Menezes wants to clinch up but Lundquist keeps it at a distance.
Menezes tries to grapple but his opponent circles
letting Lundquist counter with a right hand.
Menezes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Menezes fails with an attempt to clinch.
As Menezes backs off Lundquist throws a huge counter combo but Menezes manages to avoid it all.

Lundquist drops Menezes with a big left hand and mounts him. Menezes is in big trouble!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Menezes is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Lundquist looking to control and managing it successfully.
Menezes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Menezes tries to get out of the position.

Lundquist's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Let's hope that Lundquist has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Menezes has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
More stalling from Lundquist.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Menezes is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Lundquist controlling the pace for now.
Menezes is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Menezes is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lundquist is continuing to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Erik Lundquist dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Lundquist gets tackled into the cage by Menezes. Menezes maintains the clinch.
Menezes tries to work over Lundquist's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Menezes manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Lundquist wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Lundquist wants to break the clinch but can't.
Lundquist working hard to break the clinch.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Lundquist. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Menezes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vitor Menezes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Menezes closes the distance but Lundquist moves to the side
and Menezes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Menezes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Lundquist lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Menezes at a distance.

Menezes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Lundquist is trying to break the clinch but Menezes is controlling him.
Menezes is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Lundquist tries to circle away but Menezes has him pinned against the cage.
Menezes misses with an elbow strike.
Menezes misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Menezes landing knees to the head.
Lundquist wants to get back to striking at distance but Menezes won't allow it.
Menezes taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Menezes connects with a nasty looking knee right to Lundquist's face.
Lundquist working hard to break the clinch.

Menezes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Menezes tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Lundquist counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


It looks like Vitor Menezes has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lundquist cracks Menezes with a hook to the temple - Menezes is on wobbly legs here! Lundquist swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Menezes falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Lundquist wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Erik Lundquist!
Erik Lundquist seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
