The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karlson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Box circles away quickly and effectively.
Karlson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Box connects with a looping right hand.
Karlson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Karlson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Box has his takedown stuffed

and Karlson counters by clinching up.
Karlson goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Karlson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Box doesn't manage to clinch there - Karlson circles away.

Karlson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Box sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Karlson somewhat.

Box fails to land the takedown.

Karlson rushes Box and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Karlson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Box shoots in and drives through. Karlson sprawls well.
Box tries to close the distance and clinch up but Karlson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Karlson pulls Box into guard.

Box drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Karlson dives on top into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karlson postures up in Box's guard and throws a big left but Box blocks it.
Karlson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Karlson is pushing down on Box's leg trying to pass to half guard. Box is fighting to maintain full guard but Karlson has managed to sneak the leg through.

Karlson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Karlson seems to be looking for submissions.
Karlson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Karlson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Box's face.

Karlson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Karlson tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Box manages to circle out of the way.

Karlson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Box will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Box goes for a double leg but Karlson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Karlson continues to drive forward.

Box is pressed up against the cage. Karlson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Box down to the mat. Box avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Karlson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Box avoids it really well and circles away.

and Karlson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.


That has opened up Johny Box's cut even more.
Karlson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Karlson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Box uses from the top position.

Karlson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Box defends well.
Box is fighting to break Karlson's control of his arms but Karlson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Karlson is looking for a triangle but Box pushes his legs off easily.
Karlson has control of Box's left arm, preventing Box from doing any damage.

Johny Box has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Magnus Iii Karlson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
