PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Peterson (ranked 234 p4p, 33 weight class) and Jean-Claude Marceau (ranked 123 p4p, 19 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, George Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jean-Claude Marceau!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peterson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Marceau counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like George Peterson has been cut.
Marceau throws a hook but Peterson avoids it easily.
Peterson fails in his attempt to clinch.
Marceau is looking for the big counter here.
Peterson lands the left hand.


It looks like Jean-Claude Marceau has been cut.
Marceau takes a swing at Peterson's ribcage but misses.

Peterson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Marceau, pushing him back against the cage.
Marceau blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Peterson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Marceau breaks the clinch.
Peterson stuns Marceau with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Peterson looks to land a left hand but Marceau moved out of range nicely.
Marceau takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Peterson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Marceau momentarily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Peterson just misses with a punch to the body.
Marceau swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Peterson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Peterson scores with a jab. Marceau acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Peterson walks into a straight right hand from Marceau.
Peterson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


That has opened up Jean-Claude Marceau's cut even more.
Marceau uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Peterson.

Peterson feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Marceau sprawling to the canvas! Marceau rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Peterson finish him?!


Marceau is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Peterson throws a hook but Marceau blocks it.
Marceau circles away from the clinch attempt.

Peterson drops Marceau with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Marceau looks back up at him and smiles so Peterson waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Marceau is still on wobbly legs! Can Peterson finish him?
Peterson scores with a jab to the body.
Marceau seems to have recovered his senses.
A jab from Peterson misses.
Peterson misses with an uppercut. Marceau saw that one coming.
No joy there for Peterson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Marceau displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Peterson throws out the jab.
Peterson comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Peterson moves to clinch but Marceau breaks away
and Marceau counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Peterson has closed the distance and engaged Marceau in a clinch.
Peterson lands an elbow that stopped Marceau in his tracks for a moment.


The cut above Jean-Claude Marceau's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Marceau has had enough of the clinch but Peterson keeps him there for the moment.
Peterson swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Marceau pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Marceau keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Marceau! But no joy.
Peterson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Peterson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Marceau looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Peterson moves into the clinch.
Marceau wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Marceau tries to break free but Peterson pushes him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Peterson lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Marceau backwards.


Jean-Claude Marceau's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jean-Claude Marceau's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). George Peterson!
George Peterson decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
