PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Mokete (ranked 3006 p4p, 324 weight class) and Konichiwa Jempsa (ranked 2153 p4p, 244 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexander Mokete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Konichiwa Jempsa!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jempsa doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mokete counters with a stiff right hand.
Nice defenses there by Jempsa.
Mokete takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Jempsa scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Mokete takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jempsa creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Jempsa grinds an elbow into Mokete's temple.
Mokete is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jempsa off and has taken his back!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mokete has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Jempsa has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Mokete patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Mokete is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Mokete has the hooks in. Jempsa is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Jempsa trying to control the action but Mokete just sinks the hooks in.

Mokete has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Jempsa has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Mokete looking to break Jempsa's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Jempsa remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Mokete will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Mokete is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Jempsa is defending well though. Mokete let's go of the attempt for now.

Mokete goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Jempsa escapes and is now in half guard on top.

Mokete on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jempsa is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jempsa is taking a breather. Mokete says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Let's hope that Jempsa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Jempsa working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Jempsa moves nicely into side control.
Jempsa works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Mokete is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jempsa's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Jempsa keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Jempsa lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Jempsa wants to pass the guard but Mokete is defending well.

Mokete tries to roll over but Jempsa keeps him under control.
Mokete trying to hold on to Jempsa's head to control him but Jempsa postures up.
Mokete is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jempsa is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jempsa working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Jempsa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mokete tries to roll over but Jempsa keeps him under control.
Mokete is trying to maintain the position but Jempsa is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Konichiwa Jempsa dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mokete is controlling Jempsa's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Jempsa lands strikes from half guard.
Jempsa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mokete with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mokete has hold of Jempsa's hands but Jempsa slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Jempsa wants to pass the guard but Mokete is keeping the position.

Mokete had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jempsa defends it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mokete striking off his back but it's not causing Jempsa any problems.

Jempsa is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Mokete has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jempsa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Konichiwa Jempsa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jempsa connects with a nice short shot to Mokete's temple.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jempsa is continuing to stall.
Jempsa's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Mokete is looking to control Jempsa's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mokete avoid being mounted?

Jempsa is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Mokete is pressing down on Jempsa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Mokete is trying to hold Jempsa in close to prevent damage but Jempsa has managed to pass into half guard.
Still in half guard, Jempsa seems content to control.
Mokete wants to control but Jempsa is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jempsa slows the pace down in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Jempsa shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mokete but Mokete pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jempsa ducks under a wild hook from Mokete.
Jempsa shoots in but no luck this time.
Jempsa dives in for a single leg takedown but Mokete sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Alexander Mokete has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Konichiwa Jempsa.
Mokete tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jempsa was well out of range. Poor timing from Mokete.
Nice jab there from Mokete.
Jempsa shoots for a takedown but Mokete saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Konichiwa Jempsa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Mokete is looking to regain half guard here but Jempsa keeps moving and retains side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Konichiwa Jempsa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jempsa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
