Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Smith (ranked 793 p4p, 100 weight class) and Tan Zan (ranked 751 p4p, 93 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tan Zan!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Ben Watson and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zan takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Zan has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Zan blocks a jab.
Smith throws a big shot that misses.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Smith throws a shot to the body.
A shot to the body from Smith misses
and Zan counters with a nice body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Zan! But no joy.
Smith connects with a crisp jab.

Tan Zan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Zan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Smith uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Zan.

Smith loads up on a big right hand but Zan slips the punch.
Zan now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Zan controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zan can do anything to dispel that myth.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Zan looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Zan tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zan sprawls well. Zan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.

and Zan counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Smith thinking.

Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Smith goes for a double leg but Zan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Zan continues to drive forward.

Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zan can do to turn this around?

Smith slips a nice elbow through Zan's hands, connecting with Zan's forehead.
Zan tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg.
Smith stalling away here and it's allowed Zan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Smith postures up in Zan's guard and throws a big left but Zan blocks it.
Zan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Zan has momentary wrist control but Smith slips an elbow through the middle.
