The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gastonbury uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Diaz.
Diaz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gastonbury.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gastonbury is defended easily by Diaz.
Diaz throws out a counter right but Gastonbury avoids it with no problem.
Gastonbury fails in his attempt to clinch.
A little jabbing left from Diaz on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Diaz unleashes a big counter combination but Gastonbury bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Diaz cracks Gastonbury with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Gastonbury tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diaz swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Gastonbury moves into range and clinches up with Diaz.
A head punch on the inside from Gastonbury fails to land.
Gastonbury is looking to control Diaz's arms but Diaz gets an underhook and turns him. Now Gastonbury has his back to the cage.

Gastonbury misses with a takedown attempt - Diaz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Diaz! But no joy.
Gastonbury throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diaz's waist but Diaz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gastonbury off to one side.

The fighters circling - Diaz throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gastonbury is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Diaz.

Diaz looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Diaz misses with a few strikes there.

Gastonbury takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Diaz comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Gastonbury takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gastonbury fails with an attempt to clinch.

Gastonbury wants to clinch up but Diaz keeps it at a distance.

Gastonbury has managed to clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gastonbury takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Gastonbury escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gastonbury shoots in looking for a takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl out of it but Gastonbury keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diaz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Diaz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Despite the aggression on Diaz's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Gastonbury tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Diaz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Diaz tests Gastonbury's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Gastonbury drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Diaz tries to escape but Gastonbury is in control.
Diaz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gastonbury. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gastonbury is working to tighten his grip on Diaz's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Diaz has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Gastonbury is really squeezing tight and eventually Diaz passes out! Gastonbury breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
