PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Kravac (ranked 900 p4p, 128 weight class) and Mark Steve (ranked 910 p4p, 130 weight class). Steve is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Its a fine day to whoop somebodies ass. Mark Steve told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 23 - 0, fighting out of London, Samuel Kravac!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Steve!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kravac misses the shot to the body.

Kravac looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Steve is looking to improve his position.

Kravac seems to be working for a kimura but Steve defends the submission attempt.

Steve tries to roll over but Kravac keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kravac looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kravac is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Steve sees it coming and defends easily.

Kravac has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Steve tries to kick Kravac off but Kravac keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Kravac is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Steve is just riding it out for now. Kravac eventually gives up the hold.

Kravac is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Steve has managed to free his arm - good work.
Steve is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kravac tries to pass to full mount but Steve defends it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kravac is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Steve to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kravac is looking to work some ground and pound but Steve has wrist control.

Steve is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Steve wants to take a breather but Kravac is having none of it.
Steve tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kravac knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Steve throws a strike but Kravac avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kravac escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Steve gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kravac has his feet on Steve's thighs here. He's pushed Steve off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Steve screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Samuel Kravac!
Mark Steve was interviewed post fight and said 'broke both my hands on that thick skull and played hell on any offense....and I aint much on defense.....'.
