PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between KJ Marshal (ranked 2422 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hefty Jack (ranked 1456 p4p, 0 weight class). Hefty Jack will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, KJ Marshal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hefty Jack!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshal is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jack sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
And Jack tries to counter it with a takedown but Marshal pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Marshal definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Jack darts in looking for a takedown but Marshal gets double underhooks and turns Jack into the cage.
Jack shoots in but Marshal avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Jack is nestled in close to Marshal, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Marshal tries to get to full guard but Jack has control of the leg.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marshal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jack's guard.

Marshal working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jack's head.
Jack tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Marshal stands up over Jack, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marshal trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Marshal is in close to Jack's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Marshal is looking to work some ground and pound but Jack has wrist control.

Jack is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Marshal postures up in Jack's guard and throws a big left but Jack blocks it.

Marshal distracts Jack with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Jack has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Doc Dannis Death Squad. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Jack is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jack wants to sweep here but Marshal controlling him for the moment.
Marshal throws an elbow that misses. Jack uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Marshal's guard. Nice move by Jack!

Jack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Marshal keeping moving, preventing Jack from controlling successfully.

Jack must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jack loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Marshal is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jack is not content to let Marshal control the position.

Marshal will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Marshal closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jack did well to prevent Marshal getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Marshal lands a nice short elbow.

Jack has hold of Marshal's hands but Marshal slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Jack is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Marshal scores with a couple of nice shots.
Jack is trying to control but Marshal manages to pass to mount!
Marshal avoids the attempt from Jack to control.

Marshal is landing with some decent strikes but Jack is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
KJ Marshal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Marshal scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Jack?
Marshal postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Jack in real trouble here! The ref calls for Jack to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). KJ Marshal!
