PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zuillnic Canto (ranked 1425 p4p, 191 weight class) and Short Badass (ranked 932 p4p, 135 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zuillnic Canto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 2, fighting out of London, Short Badass!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canto misses with a takedown attempt - Badass sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Canto tries to score a power double leg takedown but Badass sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Canto somewhat.
Canto shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Badass counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zuillnic Canto. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Badass lands a right hook to the body.

Badass gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Canto drops back, looking for a kneebar! Badass looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Badass looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Badass!

Canto is looking for a sweep.

Canto tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Badass presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Badass takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Canto is working to get back to half guard.
Canto regains half guard.

Canto looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Badass tries to pass the half guard into mount. Canto knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Canto wants to control but Badass is keeping busy and won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Badass tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Badass wants to control the pace but Canto is squirming around nicely.

Canto drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Canto goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Badass has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Canto but great work by Badass.

Canto is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Badass pulls his head out easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Horrible takedown attempt by Canto or perhaps it was just good defense by Badass, which made it look bad.
Canto takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Zuillnic Canto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Badass tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Canto was well out of range. Poor timing from Badass.
Badass has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Canto stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Badass.
Canto looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Badass is fending him off so far but Canto persists. Nope, Badass circles away and we're back to standing.
Badass swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Badass looks to land a left hand but Canto moved out of range nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Badass throws a hook to the side of Canto's head but Canto sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Canto shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Badass napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Canto goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Badass has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Canto but great work by Badass.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Badass remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Canto tries to control but Badass manages to take his back.
Canto tries to escape but Badass has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Short Badass is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Canto rolls, trying to escape but Badass keeps control of the position.
Badass is not going to allow Canto to sit and survive in this position.

Canto is in bad spot here.
Canto manages to reverse the position and now he's in Badass's guard. Nice work there by Canto.

Canto has gone for a leg lock! Badass slips out almost immediately though and dives into Canto's guard.

Badass slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Badass avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Canto escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Badass gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Badass looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Canto looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

And that's the end of the fight!
Short Badass comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Badass has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Short Badass was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
