265lbs : Silas Monk vs Jean Paul Garcon
Silas Monk got back to winning ways when the doctor stepped in to save a bloodied up Devin Skrumbellos from taking any more punishment. Monk had lost the first round but turned it on in the second and had his opponent in all sorts of trouble before the medical professional called it. This was his first fight back since losing the title to Umanouke and a win was essential to get his career back on track. A second win in a row would surely put him right back into title contention and a possible rematch with Umanouke would be his desired prize but Monk really wonít care who it is he faces, as long as itís for the chance to take that belt back home with him.
Garcon has been a bit more down than up of late. A run of 1-3 in his last 4 fights has seen him slip down the rankings in a talent stacked division. A win here stops the slide but another loss could spell trouble for the former heavyweight king. The ability is still there for all to see but the 265lbs weightclass truly does have some monsters lying in wait and if youíre not on your game then you are there for the taking. Garcon is well aware of this though and he knows exactly what Monk brings to the table. His gameplan probably wonít differ much from the normal one, get him before he gets you. With 2 highly skilled knockout artists, I canít imagine this one being a particularly long fight.
265lbs Title: Ueda Umanouke vs Pena Pulkkinen
Ueda Umanouke has now put together a run of 5 straight wins since his arrival back at CEC 571. He has captured the title in that run and so far has defended it once since. He now steps into the cage in an attempt to make it 2 defences in a row and increase his win streak here to an amazing 6 fights in a very competitive division. 4 of his 5 wins have been first round stoppages which will strike fear into any heavyweight that comes up against him. Any doubters he may have had in the past have all but disappeared with more and more of them becoming fans of one of the most dangerous and exciting fighters in the organisation at the moment. This fight could prove to be his biggest test to date but he will go into it with his same confident manner as he has since his debut.
Pena Pulkkinen could very well be the one to really push the champion to his limits when he challenges for the heavyweight title in this intriguing bout. He is 1-0 at CEC after his debut unanimous decision win over ex champion, Jean Paul Garcon. It truly was a very impressive win as he seemed to control and breeze his way through all 5 rounds, every one awarded to him by all 3 of the judges sat cage side. His all round skills are unquestionable, a very dangerous striker with a ground game up there with the best fighters in the world. He has finished some of the most talented guys in the mma world and is just looking to add another name to the list and collect the heavyweight championship while he is at it.
